Stranger Things 5: filming suspended due to the strike

Even the filming of the fifth season of Stranger Things has not been spared by the strike of the writers who are suspending the activities

The writers of Stranger Things have halted production on season 5 due to a lack of an equitable deal with Netflix and other companies, which resulted in the WGA (Writers Guild of America) strike. The series was supposed to restart filming in June, but Matt e Ross Duffer, the creators of the series, have decided to participate in the general strike called by the union. They will therefore not return to work until there is a resolution of the matter. The Duffers explained the reasons for the strike stating:

The writing doesn’t stop when the shooting starts. While we are thrilled to begin production with our amazing cast and crew, that is not possible during this strike. Let’s hope a fair settlement is reached soon so we can all get back to work.

The fourth season of Stranger Things has set a record for Netflix in terms of viewership, reaching over 1 billion watch hours. Thanks to the work of the writers, the series has also won new fans by making it known to the mainstream a historical D&D enemy: Vecna (played by Jamie Campbell Bower). Season 5 promises to close all loose ends in Hawkins, finally exploring the nature of the Upside Down that is invading the real world. Plot details have been kept under wraps, but producer Shawn Levy has revealed that the emotional tone of the story will bring tears to tears.

The strike involving the writers has had repercussions on many sectors of the entertainment industry. The Late Shows ran out of new episodes and Marvel had to postpone the Blade project with Mahershala Ali, to name a few consequences. Listed Hollywood companies have lost over 10 billion in capitalization. But at the moment, a resolution of the strike still seems a long way off. The screenwriters have asked the studios for better conditions and salaries, as their work has become more complex and less profitable with the change in the media landscape, and have also asked for guarantees about their future, fearing that artificial intelligence could replace them. We will see the developments, on which we will update you on our page dedicated to films and TV series.
