Sony announced two new smartphones today: one aimed at content creators, the Sony Xperia 1 V with top-of-the-range features; and the other a mid-range device for those who want to enjoy video, music and games, the Sony Xperia 10 V. The new Xperia 1, in particular, aims to redefine photography on smartphone. With new sensors and really cool features.
Sony Xperia 1 V and Xperia 10 V, features and price of smartphones
Sony continues again this year with a “triple” strategy for its smartphones. On the one hand, the 1 Series think professional content creators. Instead, 5 Series (not renewed yet) represents the premium model for good quality content. And the 10 Series for users who create social media posts and enjoy videos and music over the years. All with Android, all with Sony audio and video experiences.
The 1 Series, in particular, as always brings novelties from a photographic point of view. In 2019, Sony brought Eye AF and Skin Tuning to mobile photography. And then in 2020 4K Slo-mo video, in 2021 variable telephoto, in 2022 optical zoom and Eye AF for video. Also this year, he wants to innovate.
Sony Xperia 1 V, camera features
Xperia 1 V brings new features but retains its own nature: bring a Pro Camera by Sony in uno smartphone. After throwing the sensors Exmor R and then Exmor RSin 2023 they launch a new sensor: Exmor T for mobile, an image sensor CMOS with two layers of Transistor Pixel (Photodiode and Transistor), which allows you to take shots twice as good in low light conditions.

There are three main cameras:

Compared to last year, the sensor becomes 1.7 times larger, to get better shots in low light and reduce the noise of your photos. But together with the optical part, it also improves the computational one. Allowing, for example, to snap Impressive Night Portraits, with quality that Sony compares to one digital camera. But portraits also get better during the day: in the shots that Sony showed us in preview, we were able to appreciate how it becomes possible to calculate the complexity of the light in each shot.
In the photographic examples, the Night View in particular it looks professional level, because the new sensor allows to collect much more light. Even better than the human eye, according to the data that Sony tells us.
A smart camera
There are also several advanced modes for the fotocameraS-Cinetone for mobile, which allows you to show the skin tones of subjects without color grading. Also, i come back Creative Look, presets that allow you to customize videos and photos. There are six that vary saturation, color and much more.
Using AI it also becomes possible to adjust the autofocus very well, similar to that used in the camera series of the series Sony alpha. AI is also used for the white balance and exposurein addition to the depth. Something that Sony can offer seen the long experience in camera.
Among the features of Sony Xperia 1 V there are also two new functions for the VLOG. In particular, the possibility of automatically showing the product you are showing in the foreground, perhaps for an unboxing. Also, there is a new microphone between cameras that focuses on voices (but with normal ones you can record ambient sound).
The new features also include: Show Peaking su Photo Pro, Video Pro, Cinema Pro. In addition, several new features such as live chat in the stream. It also arrivesand the vertical UI for those who take photos and videos for social media.
Top-notch multimedia capabilities
In addition to the large camera, there are several other interesting innovations. As one schermo 4K HDR 120Hz, designed to better enjoy videos, movies and games. But also with two new ones dedicated speakers for dynamic sound, with bass boosters. As usual for Sony (and luckily someone still does it even in the top of the range), among the features that Xperia 1 V supports is the 3.5mm audio jack, with Hi-Res Audio support. But also Hi-Res Audio wireless e LDAC via Bluetooth LE, as well as 360° audio and all the best audio technologies, for which Sony is known.
Also from the software point of view, Sony focuses heavily on multimedia elements. Increase support for the podcast, but also guitar or piano, for those who create content of this type directly from the smartphone. For those who play, there is the Game Enhancer, which allows both to monitor performance for pro gamers and to have other options for creators (for example screenshots with camera shatter).
Top-of-the-line features
For the rest, all the features are top of the range. Battery from 5.000mAh with approximately 20 hours of playback at 4K. And which retains over 80% of its capabilities even after three years. The processor is one Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is 40% better than the previous generation in efficiency. And in particular, it allows you to consume 20% less camera power and has 60% better heat distribution.
Also pay attention to the design, with the Functional Tactile Design which should improve the grip to handle the phone. Comes in three colors: Black, Khaki Green e Platinum Silver. With lots of interesting accessories, starting with a new cover with stand, both vertically and horizontally.
The new Xperia 10V
Also interesting is theXperia 10 V, which Sony launches for the mid-market. Lighter, but packed with media features. In particular, an attention to audio that few other manufacturers offer in this price range (or any other). In fact, there are two speakers looking towards you while you watch a video or a TV series, for a powerful audio of + 20% compared to the average. And the audio jack remains and support for all possible audio standards: in short, these Sony Xperias have everything a music lover needs. And videos, since the display is 1.5 times brighter.
Also in this smartphone there are three cameras: wide, ultra-wide and telephoto – something that is rarely seen in this price range. And they have 1.6x larger sensors, to collect more light. There is then the OIS for both images and videosto always have a steady hand in any situation.
The battery is large from 5.00mAh, although Sony tells us that it is the lightest 5G phone in the world. It is IP65/68 protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Le dimension: 155x68x8.3mm e 159 grammi, fits in one hand and weighs much less than the average. The colors are Black White Sage Green Lavender. The same colors as the Sony WF-C700N, the wireless headphones to match (which we really liked).
The processor is one Snapdragon 695 5G, with a 6.1″ OLED display. The front camera is 8MP with AI, while on the back we find a 48-inch main sensor.
Also continue the Road to Zero, Sony’s road to sustainability. In 2022 it already has eliminated the plastic in the packaging. This year the packaging is al 100% created from recycled paper fibers, bamboo and other recyclable materials: we have already experienced this with the Sony WF-C700N headphones and it continues with smartphones. In which Sony uses the SORPLAS plastic, high-performance recycled plastic: used bottles, CDs and other products are recycled for Xperia 1V and 10V, both in some internal and external elements.
