Microsoft it is expanding using the cloud for Windows not only in the commercial sector with Windows 365but also for i consumers. During an internal presentation in 2022, the plan to focus on “Windows 365 to offer a complete Windows operating system streamed from the cloud to any device”.
Microsoft will move Windows to the cloud
The presentation was made public as part of the ongoing FTC hearing against Microsoft, as it includes the company’s overall strategy and how it relates to other parts of the company’s business. The transition of “Windows 11 increasingly in the cloud” is identified as a long-term opportunity in the Microsoft’s “Modern Life” consumer space.
Windows 365 delivers a full version of Windows to devices through streaming. So far, it has only been available for i business customers, but Microsoft has already integrated it deeply into Windows 11. A future update will also include starting Windows 365, which will allow devices with Windows 11 to directly access a Cloud PC instance on startup.
The idea of fully moving Windows to the cloud for consumers is just one of the interesting news that has emerged during the lawsuit. Microsoft has in fact also expressed interest in investing in custom partnerships for chip development.
Microsoft has already taken some of these actions for its devices Surface Pro X basati su ARM. Recently, we’ve also heard rumors that Microsoft may be working on its own AI chips.
If we add to these two trends the push towards the AI of Windows Copilotwe see how Microsoft is increasingly aiming towards a Windows equipped with artificial intelligence and with a virtual “home” in the cloud.
