Citroën strengthens the market offer of ë-C4 and ë-C4 X Electric

Citroën accelerates the pace and strengthens the offer on the market of ë-C4 e ë-C4 X Electric. This one with a more powerful engine and an extended range of up to 420 km on the WLTP combined cycle.

With the adoption of a new engine and battery configuration on these two models, Citroën is the only generalist brand to offer two complementary electric vehicles in the C-segment.

Citroën boosts its C-segment offer

Citroën opens the orders of ë-C4 and ë-C4 X. With a new high-performance powertrain that can achieve a range of 420 km according to the WLTP cycle.

Quest’increase in autonomy of almost 17% compared to the first generation. It is based on the combination of a new 54 kWh advanced chemistry battery. And a new, more efficient and powerful engine developing 115 kW (156 hp).

These guarantee customers greater versatility and driving pleasure.

Availability

Initially only available on the Shine tier. This new offering complements the current electric offering of the ë-C4 and ë-C4 X.

This matches a 100 kW motor (136 hp) a a 50 kW battery for a range of up to 360 km. The range thus benefits from greater range and progressive access to electric mobility.

These two complementary electric powertrains are at the heart of Citroën’s electrification strategy.

It aims to make the transition to electric vehicles easier and smoother. They share the same philosophy, which calls for a reasoned choice of battery size.

It’s a fast charging capacity of 100 kW, favoring a competitive price positioning and at the same time offering great versatility of use.

With this new electric vehicle, Citroën strengthens the attractiveness of its offer in the C-segment sedan sector and clearly positions itself as a major player in the market. The development is accompanied, in various European countries, by the opening up of the offer of petrol and diesel engines to offer more accessible versions.

This attractiveness is reflected in the number of orders and registrations. In Europe, the ë-C4 ranks 5th in the compact electric sedan segment and the C4 petrol ranks 3rd in its class.

A new engine under the banner of electric efficiency

The Ë-C4 and Ë-C4 X offer a new electric motor with extended range, which allows you to exceed the symbolic value of 400 km (in the WLTP combined cycle). The motor and battery of this new electric drive train have been designed to be more efficient and benefit from major technological developments.

The motor: a 115 kW or 156 hp hybrid synchronous electric motor (HSM), which replaced the permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. It offers 15kW (20hp) more while maintaining high efficiency. The engine is capable of delivering a torque of 260 Nm, immediately available, to ensure immediate responsiveness and driving comfort.

The battery: a new 54 kWh battery, 4 kWh more than the current electric offer. Compact and equipped with liquid circulation thermal regulation and a standard heat pump, which facilitate rapid recharging, it has a different chemistry distributed over 102 cells and 17 modules. Instead of 60% nickel, 20% manganese and 20% cobalt, this high voltage lithium-ion battery has a higher nickel ratio (80% nickel, 10% manganese and 10% cobalt ), which improves its energy density, resulting in longer battery life.

All these features benefit the range, which increases by 17% compared to the current electric offer, reaching 420 km (according to the WLTP combined cycle), and energy efficiency, which reduces the average energy consumption to 12 kW /h. In addition to the gain in terms of range, there are significant advantages in real use, which translate into +30 km in urban traffic conditions even with temperatures close to 0°C.

The efficiency of the electric motor, its battery and its ability to recover energy help to increase range. But efficiency is also achieved through the engineering and design of the C4 and C4 X:

  • The dimensions and weight of the battery are reduced to a minimum, with a consequent reduction in consumption.
  • Optimized charging times thanks to DC charging capability with 100 kW fast charging.
  • Standard equipment such as the heat pump which, thanks to a humidity sensor, maximizes the energy efficiency of heating and air conditioning.
  • The 18-inch “A+” tyres, which reduce rolling resistance and minimize energy loss through friction.
  • Flowing seamlessly into the tailgate, the C4 X’s silhouette features a clean, dynamic roofline that optimizes aerodynamics.

Despite the increased battery capacity, the charging times have not increased, thus ensuring the comfort of use. With this new electric engine, two types of on-board battery chargers are available on the ë-C4 and ë-C4 X, suitable for all uses and all charging solutions: as standard, a single-phase 7.4 kW charger and, option, an 11 kW three-phase charger. Furthermore, ë-C4 and ë-C4 X are compatible with fast charging: from a 100 kW public charging station, it is possible to go from 20% to 80% of the charge in less than 30 minutes.

  • On levels Feel, Feel Pack e Shine: a 100 kW (136 HP) engine combined with a 50 kWh battery with a range of up to 360 km. It is an excellent compromise with a limited budget and the possibility of covering all journeys without stress.
  • On the level Shinea new more powerful and efficient 115 kW (156 HP) engine and a 54 kWh battery with new chemistry, allow this electric offer to offer more driving pleasure, more range and versatility.
