The Oceans are the real continents: details on the opening film chosen for the Giornate degli Autori

Impactful and unconventional images; able to show a reality without veils e without colors. A key to understanding what is demonstrated in the few fragments of the Official trailer of the film, Oceans are the real continents. In competition for the next edition of the Giornate degli Autori; Tommaso Santambrogio proves to be committed, in one representation of a decadent Cubawith black and white torn by Caribbean rain.

Protagonists young people Alex and Edith, the elderly Milagros and the children Frank and Alain. A simple life, made up of small daily gestures, lived through tales of the past and dreams of the future. Set in San Antonio De Los Baños; time seems to stop. A contemporary and suffered fresco, built thanks to the three narratives united by the specter of separation that hovers in them; only real scourge of Cuban society today. As stated by the director himself Thomas Santambrogio:

The first time I went to Cuba” – explains the director – “I was eight years old. I remember that, as I approached the airport controls, I witnessed a desperate and inseparable embrace – with deep sobs and tears – between a father and a daughter, who evidently had found a way to leave the island and would not made more return. It was a farewell, a separation, poignant and unjust as terribly daily and common in Cuban society, which today is going through the most serious migration crisis in its history

In addition to the work The Oceans are the real continents; Thomas Santambrogio is known for his collaborations with the likes of Werner Herzog e Lav Diaz.
