William Friedkin: the director of the film The Exorcist dies
The violent arm of the law is the film that in 1971 won him a total of 5 Academy Awards, not only for best film, but also for best director. Global success came two years later with The Exorcist, a cult horror film that shocked the world and is still capable of instilling terror and anxiety for its modernity and genius. A film that brought with it many controversies and censorship, especially for those years and which are also achieved with another of his films, Cruising from 1980 with Al Pacino. The film caused much discussion and was severely attacked by the gay community of New York, then expanding the controversy in the rest of the community, which felt offended by this film.
The Venice film festival had planned for this year the out-of-competition screening of one of his new films, entitled The Caine Mutiny: Court Martial, which will in any case be a way to celebrate a director who, from an artistic point of view, is always went against the tide in the direction of a style of horror and psychological detective story that nevertheless knew how to be revolutionary at the time.
