Pierfrancesco Favino is the protagonist of Comandante, the new film by Edoardo De Angelis, in competition at the Venice Film Festival: here is the teaser trailer
Among the most awaited Italian films of this season, which will open the competition of the next Venice Film Festival, there is Comandante, the new film by Edoardo De Angelis starring Pierfrancesco Favino. The Roman actor sports another of his impeccable accents, and the cast also includes Massimiliano Rossi, Johan Heldenbergh and one of the best Italian actresses of the moment, Silvia D’Amico. The music is by Robert Del Najafamous member of Massive Attack (often referred to as the true identity of the anonymous Banksy). De Angelis himself and the writer wrote the screenplay for this war film Sandro Veronesi. Below is the first teaser trailer for Commander.
Commander: the plot and the first official teaser trailer of the film in competition at the Venice Film Festival
At the beginning of the Second World War Salvatore Todaro commands the submarine Cappellini of the Regia Marina. In October 1940, while sailing in the Atlantic, in the dark of night the silhouette of a freighter traveling with the lights off appears, the Kabalo, which will later be discovered to be of Belgian nationality and loaded with British war material, which suddenly opens fire on the submarine and the Italian crew. A short but violent battle breaks out in which Todaro sinks the merchant ship with cannon shots. And it is at this point that the Commander takes a decision destined to make history: to save the 26 castaways from Belgium condemned to drown in the middle of the ocean to disembark them in the nearest safe portas required by the law of the sea. To welcome them on board he is forced to sail on the surface for three days, making himself visible to enemy forces and endangering his life and that of his men. When the captain of the Kabalo, disembarking in the bay of Santa Maria of the Azores, asks him why he exposed himself to such a risk by contravening the directives of his own command, Salvatore Todaro replies with the words that made him a legend: “Because we are Italians”.
This is the plot of the film Comandante, which foreshadows yet another success for Pierfrancesco Favino, increasingly launched on the national and European scene. We’ll see how he will be judged within the Film art exhibition in which, we reiterate, it will be presented in preview.
