Il James Dyson Award announced the Italian winner of the 2023 edition: the project D-Pulp received the first prize, recognized for its revolutionary innovation in the field of myoelectric prostheses for upper limbs.

The project D-Pulp aims to significantly improve the process of creating myoelectric prostheses for upper limbs. This type of prosthesis is crucial for many people who have suffered amputations or who have upper limb disabilities, allowing them to recover an essential part of their daily life. However, the traditional creation process is expensive, time-consuming and involves risks associated with manually manufacturing prosthetics.
D-Pulp offers a number of significant benefits: reduction of times and costs, customizable materials, sustainability e safety.
In addition to D-Pulp, the competition recognized other promising projects. In second place there is B-Flos, a project that aims to provide irrigation solutions in drought-prone areas by taking advantage of air humidity and precipitation. In third place there is Braille-Flywhich seeks to make Braille displays, currently expensive and limited to personal use, more accessible by placing them in public places to serve people with visual impairments.
The James Dyson Award is a global competition that has for years challenged young talents around the world to find innovative solutions to real problems. International winners will be announced on November 15, competing for a final prize of 34.000 euro. This competition has already recognized 390 inventions, with over 70% of winners subsequently commercializing their solutions.
In Italy, a jury of experts, including university professors, journalists and innovation enthusiasts, evaluated the projects. Who commented: “D-Pulp deserves first place in the Italian James Dyson Award 2023 because it satisfies the main evaluation criteria fundamental for the competition, proving to be an innovative invention capable of solving a decisive problem for thousands of people around the world. An intelligent solution that puts the individual at the centre, significantly improving both the process and the aesthetic-functional quality of a system that is as complex as it is essential for people”.
