Thanks to Intramovies, with the collaboration of Cineclub Internazionale, starting from November 1st you will find Dirty Difficult Dangerous, the new film by Wissam Charaf, in Italian cinemas. Second feature film by the French-Lebanese director Wissam Charaf, it was presented at the 79th Venice Film Festival as the opening film of the Giornate degli Autori, where won the Europa Cinemas Label Award for Best European Film.

Set in Beirut and the border between Lebanon and Syria, the film follows the intense relationship between an Ethiopian girl and a Syrian refugee: a love story told with a light touch and fairy-tale tones. In the background, war, refugees, human trafficking, themes which however leave room for an authentic and strong sense of hope born from courage.
The director stated:
I wanted to tell the story of the meeting of two fallen angels, Ahmed and Mehdia, two marginalized people forced to face dangers and racial discrimination on a daily basis. A melodrama in which cruelty, comedy and tenderness intertwine, offering an intimate vision of today’s Lebanese society, describing the tragedy of three populations across a single country: racism towards domestic workers, the misery of Syrian refugees and the moral decadence of citizens Lebanese who exploit them. Even if inspired by a cruel reality, I preferred my film to propose a revisited reality and a different point of view on misery and pathos.

Beirut. Lebanon. Today. Ahmed, a Syrian refugee, and Mehdia, an Ethiopian immigrant who works as a maid, live a clandestine love affair made up of furtive kisses in the streets of Beirut. While Mehdia tries to free herself from her employers, Ahmed, suffering from a mysterious illness, makes a living by selling recycled metals. Their story seemingly has no future, but they have nothing to lose. So they decide to flee in desperate search of a better life. Meanwhile, Ahmed’s condition begins to worsen.
