The new Medion gaming laptop follows the familiar formula of previous models. There is a monolithic black chassis and an aluminum lid with the RGB-illuminated logo. Unlike the Beast X40, doesn’t have the extra lighting, but is a more accessible series, taking into account its high price and obvious similarities. Furthermore, It does not have a rear support to lift the laptopwhich makes it more compact.

We had no doubts that the laptop was well made. L’Intel Core i9-13900HX with his 24 core e 32 thread manages to offer unparalleled calculation speed, thanks to one maximum frequency equal to 5.4 GHz. All this speed, also supported by two DDR5-4800 RAM banks of 16 GB each and combined with the unquestionable performance of the GPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 make it an excellent product for gaming.
In fact, it will be possible to start all video games, even those that require more computing power. The whole without having to sacrifice graphics for performance or vice versa. This is obviously made possible thanks also to Nvidia’s technology which, thanks to its DLSS, allowed us to play Cyberpunk 2077 with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and “Ray tracing Ultra” performance at a average frequency equal to 85 fps.
However we will hardly be able to fully exploit the 240 Hz of update frequency. In fact, it will be almost impossible to reach them, except on slightly older games which are therefore lighter in terms of resources required from the video card. In these cases, however, we will be able to activate the cap on 240 fps to fully enjoy the panel installed on this notebook.
Insufficient battery and high noise | Erazer Major X20 review
Playing however goes to activate the “Turbo” mode which allows you to cool all the internal components. This obviously comes at the expense of battery energy, although to play you need to connect the notebook to powerand causes an increase in noise with rather high peaks equal to 57 dB. Obviously these are not excessive values, we have heard much worse during our reviews, however if you do not use isolating headphones, in the long run it can become annoying.
Although we cannot be satisfied on the acoustic side, temperatures are well managed during this phase. All this translates into temperatures that stand at around 85°C for the processor during higher workloads and after several minutes of uninterrupted use. For the video card instead we are talking about temperatures around 72°C when it is used at full load.
At low load obviously the situation changes a lot. If you use the Major X20 only for browsing or for daily loads, we will hardly be able to hear the sound of the spinning fans. Even in this case, however, the situation is not the best due to one insufficient battery to handle this workload for several hours.
The overall duration recorded during navigation and video playback is attested around 3 and a half hours. You will understand very well that this value is absolutely insufficient if you also want to use it at work or during a university day. We will always be forced to look for a power outlet to hold on to to increase the duration of our session.
Conclusions
We have now reached the end of this review and it is therefore time to take stock. The Major X20 actually presents itself as the “little brother” of the Beast X40. Much of the difference is immediately noticeable in the design choices made by the company and you can touch when you start the various games in our catalogues.
Although the RTX 4070 is a very respectable card, of course it suffers from the comparison with an RTX 4090. Although the performance is therefore slightly lower, however, they remain quite high to allow us to play even titles that require more resources without having to sacrifice graphics for greater fluidity.
A lot of computing power obviously requires a lot of energy to play we will be forced to always use the power cable. Even at low workloads, however, the battery is not sufficient to guarantee prolonged use. The cooling system, on the other hand, is very high-performance and doesn’t do it never reach critical temperatures even after hours of use. However, this is not always a good thing. If on the one hand temperatures remain low, on the other the noise produced to cool the notebook increases until critical thresholds are reached.
The input compartment and the rest of the hardware components remain unchanged compared to the Beast X40, except some small design changes.
