Based on the novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam, published in Italy by La Nave di Teseo, the feature film is set in a world on the verge of collapse, which will force the protagonists to come to terms with their role in society and with their own livesas can also be seen from the official synopsis.
In this apocalyptic thriller from award-winning writer-director Sam Esmail, Amanda (Julia Roberts) and husband Clay (Ethan Hawke) rent a luxury home for a weekend with their children Archie (Charlie Evans) and Rose (Farrah Mackenzie). The holiday is immediately disrupted by the arrival at night of two strangers: GH (Mahershala Ali) and his daughter Ruth (Myha’la), who inform them of a mysterious cyberattack and want to take refuge in the house they say they own. The two families take stock of the looming disaster that becomes increasingly terrifying, forcing them to come to terms with their role in a world close to collapse.
Sam Esmail, former creator of the acclaimed Mr. Robot series, returns to tell a story with strong dystopian and apocalyptic overtones. Alongside him we find, as mentioned, an all star cast, led by Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke e Mahershala Ali and in which it also finds space Kevin Bacon. The cast is then completed by Charlie Evans, Farrah Mackenzie and Myha’la, also expected in Craig Gillespie’s Dumb Money. In the team of executive producers we even find Barack e Michelle Obamawith their production company Higher Ground Productions, already behind another Netflix film, the biopic Rustin, which will be available from November 17th.
