These days marks the 60th anniversary of a model that represents one of the highest points of automotive technology and style. This is the iconic Maserati Quattroporte, presented at the Turin Motor Show in October 1963
Some define it as the four-door “Ferrari” that never was born, others prefer to consider it as a sports car “disguised” as a sedan. Whatever one thinks, no one can deny that the Maserati Quattroporte, available in six versions so far, represented much more. It’s about a car that has no equal: no other car can boast such a successful combination of sporting performance, extremely elegant details and driving comfort.
A result that is not at all easy to obtain, especially when you decide to create something with such a strong and well-defined character. Sixty years ago Maserati demonstrated to the whole world that this was possible and effectively created a previously unknown automotive segment: that of super sports sedans. His exclusive and elegant character it has passed unscathed through reinterpretation by various stylists and engineers, successfully facing six decades of profound and radical changes. Even when the brand went through its darkest moments, the Maserati Quattroporte always appeared to the public as a car that arouses respect and admiration: a real status symbol that very few could afford but that everyone ultimately desired.

Maserati Quattroporte: at ease in any context
Thanks to the happy hand of our most illustrious coachbuilders such as Frua, Bertone, Giugiaro, Gandini, Pininfarina and, last but not least, the Maserati Style Centre, the car has a leading role in many public and institutional appearances. Politicians, royals, entertainment stars and internationally renowned entrepreneurs are just some examples of the clientele that has brought this model to the fore during its long career. A great success also thanks to quality of materials and assembly, which accompany an absolutely enviable stage presence. Among other things, the appearance of a Maserati Quattroporte M139 in the 2011 comedy Almost Friends – Intouchables is memorable, demonstrating the ability of this extraordinary model to warm the hearts of an incredibly vast and heterogeneous audience.
Italian style icon
Nowadays there are now numerous alternatives to the Maserati Quattroporte. So what drives the most refined and demanding drivers to still prefer this car over more recent models that are less talked about from a reliability point of view? Simply the feeling of get behind the wheel of an icon. An emotion that cannot be recreated on the table and cannot even be described in words, just like the thrill you feel listening to the notes coming from the exhausts. Never mind if some impromptu warning light pops up on the dashboard from time to time: no one is perfect! Nobody but her, the machine chosen (also) by Pavarotti and Elton John.
