Remarkable numbers for a monumental matchmaking: large groups of players on Fortnite quickly reach almost 45 million
We would probably think that Fortnite AND were the craziest season in wanting to make pure, unapologetic nostalgia its flagship, but if we want to talk about numbers we would say that 44.7 million players are an ideal figure for Epic Games. Clearly a demand so much higher than supply could not help but merge the servers, also thanks to the matches made shorter by a comparatively claustrophobic map. With a similar user base, we are surprised by the choice to extend nostalgia to the item shop too, but with a collective amount of hours of play equal to 102 million we would say that the first day of the “new old” Fortnite is far from the metaphorical tombstone that memes attribute to battle royale.
Way to start things off with a big bang
We’re blown away by the response to #FortniteOG. Yesterday was the biggest day in Fortnite’s history with over 44.7 MILLION players jumping in and 102 MILLION hours of play.
To all Fortnite players, OG and new, THANK YOU!

Between Leaning Pinnacles and incredible takings: millions of players (and cucuzze) for Fortnite OG
How much the game earns in the long term, then, will remain to be seen, but the enthusiasm in tweet above is definitely tangible. “Nice way to start,” Epic Games welcomes, “with a big bang! The response to #FortniteOG positively surprised us. Yesterday was the biggest day in Fortnite history, with over 44.7 million active players and 102 million hours of gameplay. To all players, old and new, thank you!” And if these are the numbers, probably the classic island it could even survive beyond the end of the season. As a separate mode, perhaps? What is certain is that those 830 employees left at home, equal to 16% of Epic’s workforce, would come in handy to manage so many lost sheep.
