Blade will be the fourth MCU film rated R-rated in US theaters, earning it an R-rated rating
Blade has been at the center of many rumors and controversies in recent days, but in these hours the new director of the next Marvel Studios title Yann Demange tried to start conversations about the film from scratch by focusing attention on the official rating. In fact, during a recent promotional interview published by Deadline, Demange confirmed that Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot will be rated-r, which will make the film starring two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali one of the rare R-rated Marvel titles. The director, interviewed on this point, reported:
Marvel gave me the red sticker, the film will be rated-r, which is very important for me: I finished working on my new short film, Dammi, with the desire to be more open, more vulnerable and to bring an aspect more personal to my work. We will have fun with Blade because Mahershala is a very profound actor, and I am excited to show the ruthlessness of this character, his roughness, the characteristics that allow him to move in this very particular world: he has dignity to spare and a lot of integrity, but in There’s a ferocity to Blade that he usually keeps at bay… and we want to unleash it and bring it to the screen. He is a character I have always loved.
Blade and the rating as R-rated
Blade will therefore be the fourth R-rated MCU title, after the film Deadpool 3, the live-action TV series Echo and the animated TV series Marvel Zombie, a spin-off of What If.
