It will be thanks to the innovative and fashionable aesthetics, or the futuristic and technological character: in any case the Tesla confirms itself as one of the cars at the moment most sought after and purchased in Europe. However, this result is thanks to the success of only two cars, namely Model 3 and Model Y. Those who are more attentive will not have missed the fact that to date the American brand does not have small cars or entry level models in its price list.
Not a big problem for a brand that wanted to limit itself to producing only exclusive and very expensive cars. However, Tesla is proving to also wink at big numbers and ads a larger clientele. This is how the need for a simpler and cheaper model arose, with a premium image and an affordable price: the Tesla Model 2.
A square and futuristic design
According to some rumours, the lines of the Tesla Model 2 should reflect the aesthetic concepts underlying the already well-known Cybertruck. Behind the choice of this new stylistic course however there are not only reasons related to design. The large flat surfaces are in fact cheaper to produce, store and assemble, also allowing greater internal habitability to be achieved.
We can therefore expect an edgy design but very attentive to aerodynamics, implemented by already known solutions such as the retractable door handles and the highly profiled rear-view mirrors. The dimensions of the Tesla Model 2 will most likely be those of a B-segment car, i.e. approximately four meters in length. The selling price should be around 25.000 euroa figure which, however, currently (net of incentives and promotions) seems to be estimated excessively downwards.
Tesla Model 2: what’s new under the hood
The little one from Tesla will obviously be powered by an electric motor: a technology in which the brand is an industry leader. As for batteries, the choice could fall on lithium-iron-phosphate unitsto maintain acceptable costs without excessively penalizing the autonomy of the car.
Tesla Model 2 could also be equipped with autonomous driving, however it is not yet clear whether this technology will be reserved only for a particular taxi version or whether it will be available on all trim levels. Tesla’s well-known intent to expand its production goals it will also include the identification of new manufacturing plants. Tesla Model 2, again according to rumors, could be assembled in Germany but it is currently not possible to say with certainty whether this will be sufficient to guarantee the expected sales volumes.
What can be said with certainty, however, is that Tesla Model 2 will have a decisive role for the home. It could in fact project it into the Olympus of the world’s largest car manufacturers or it could instead relegate it to a role of perennial marginality. How will it end?
