The 3 Body Problem is inspired by the novels of Cixin Liu, winner, thanks to this work, of the Hugo Award. Her official synopsis reads:
In the China of the Cultural Revolution, a secret military project sends signals into space trying to contact alien intelligences, and succeeds. However, the message is received by the wrong planet, Trisolaris, the only survivor of a system orbiting around three suns, dominated by chaotic and unpredictable gravitational forces, which have already burned eleven worlds. It’s what physicists call the “three-body problem”, and Trisolarians know that their destiny, sooner or later, will be to sink into the scorching surface of one of the suns, unless they find a new home: a habitable planet, just like ours. Trisolaris then plans an invasion of Earth. On the blue planet, in the meantime, humanity is divided: how to welcome visitors from space? Fight the invaders or help them clean up an irremediably corrupt world?
Its television version is made up of a very respectable cast, starting with Liam Cunningham e John Bradley. At their side Benedict Wong, Jovan Adepo, Eiza Gonzalez, Tsai Chin, Marlo Kelly, Jess Hong, Alex Sharp, Zine Tseng, Samer Usamani, Sea Shimooka, Jonathan Pryce, Eve Schnetzer, Rosalind Chao e Ben Ridley. The series was created by David Benioff and DB Weissi.e. the same creators of Game of Thrones and the screenwriter of True Blood, Alexander Woo. The direction is instead by Derek Tsang. Benioff and Weiss, among the executive producers, are also joined by the director Derek Tsang, Brad Pitt, Bernadette Caulfield, Ram Bergman, Nena Rodrigue, Rian Johnson, Lin Qi, Zhao Jilong, Dede Gardner, Rosamund Pike e I’m doing Uniacke.
Release date
The show has already been previewed by a clip, allowing us to have a very small taste of the plot, while still maintaining a certain aura of mystery. The protagonist of this preview is John Bradley, suddenly arriving in a new and unknown world, only apparently peaceful. If initially, with the TUDUM event, it was announced that The 3 Body Problem would be released in January 2024, we now know that it will debut on the Netflix platform on March 21, 2024.
