Nuki has a new smart lock with Matter compatibility
The new locks feature longer battery life and easier integration into smart home systems. Thanks to compatibility with Matter, the connection standard is integrated into the product and the lock does not require external supports such as bridges or Wi-Fi modules. Furthermore, in addition to the new smart locks, Nuki also presents the Keypad 2 Pro.
Nuki and the new smart lock: tested on the outside, new on the inside
Visually, the fourth generation of Nuki remains unchanged with its iconic design and availability in black and white. However, the electronics and software are completely new thanks to Matter making it easier to integrate with major smart home systems. Also new is the longer battery life: on a single charge the two new smart locks can be used for up to six months, which represents an improvement in autonomy of around 30%.
This also brings benefits for Nuki Smart Hosting users: for homeowners, who often organize holiday properties remotely, the effort is further reduced as they need to recharge the smart lock less often.
Not just for those with an affinity for technology
Nuki’s Matter-compatible smart locks are based on modern connectivity and communicate via Thread. This technology, developed specifically for battery-powered smart devices, ensures that a smart home responds to commands faster than Bluetooth. Furthermore, the power consumption of Thread is significantly lower than that of WLAN with a similar range.
Each person within a home can use the smart home through the platform of their choice, and Matter-enabled devices communicate locally via hubs, ensuring that security-relevant data never leaves the home. Furthermore, the activation of the connection standard takes place in a few moments by scanning a QR code.
Price and availability
The new Smart Lock Pro with power supply included and integrated Wi-Fi costs €279, while the new Smart Lock costs €169. For all those who already own a Nuki electronic lock, there is the possibility of an upgrade: The Smart Lock Pro, together with the Keypad 2, costs €299 (with a saving of €80).
For existing users, the fourth generation Smart Lock comes with free remote access via Thread for “Nuki Apps & Services” through a compatible Matter hub, which will be released via firmware update in early 2024. New Nuki users will need pay a single fee of 39 euros for this access.
