Murder in Venice by and with Kenneth Branagh has a streaming release date on the Disney+ platform, after a cinematic performance that made it one of the Italian box office successes of the calendar year and good critical response. The feature film, freely inspired by Agatha Christie’s work entitled Poirot and the Massacre of the Innocents (Halloween Party), sees in action a cast of stars including our Riccardo Scamarcio, led as always by the director himself in the role of the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot.
Murder in Venice: streaming on Disney+ from November 22nd
It will be on Disney+ from November 22 Murder in Venice, third act of Poirot reinvented as actor and director by Kenneth Branagh. The adventure began for the former 20th Century Fox with Murder on the Orient Expressthen continuing under the Disney-owned 20th Century Studios with Murder on the Nile. Assassination in Venice recorded takings of 8,648,000 euros in Italy (ninth best takings of the calendar year), while worldwide it totaled 121,520,000 dollars, against a budget of around 60 million, taking home just under the Nile, which had registered $137,307,200, blocked and postponed for some time due to the pandemic.
In Murder in Venice the setting of the novel Poirot and the Massacre of the Innocents is moved from England in the 1960s to Venice after the Second World War: in 1947, on the eve of All Hallows’ Eve, the detective Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh), now retired and in the city, is involved in a séance, where one of the participants is murdered. There is no supernatural hypothesis that holds, and Poirot will face the shadows. In the rest of the cast they are worth mentioning Kyle Allen, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Riccardo Scamarcio and Michelle Yeoh. Here you can find our review.
