The DCU expands with Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow, which introduces Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, into the reboot of the cinematic universe of DC characters
In the DC Universe there will be no place just for Supermanalso his cousin Supergirl will enter the shared cinematic universe led by James Gunn, famous for being the director of the three Guardians of the Galaxy films which were highly successful, satisfying the expectations of critics and audiences. The character of Kara Zor-El will be explored in the film dedicated to her Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrowwhich will be part of Chapter 1 of the cinematic universe, titled Gods and Monsters.
The DCU already has a writer for Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, James Gunn e Peter Safran have already found a screenwriter for the film dedicated to Clark Kent’s cousin: Ana Nogueira. Actress and screenwriter, Nogueira has already worked on series such as The Vampire Diariesstarred in The Michael J. Fox show and on the show Hightown. In 2022 she convinced the public with Which Way to the Stage and now he is working on the adaptation of a short novel: Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters, by Alice Sola Kim. At the moment, unfortunately, the opposite of Superman: Legacy e Batman the Brave and the Boldrespectively in the hands of Gunn and Andy MuschiettiSupergirl does not yet have a director, although Nogueira was already working on a possible spin-off of the character at the time of The Flashwhen Supergirl was played by Sasha Street.
DC’s management change canceled the spin-off, but the Supergirl movie remained on plan, being announced among the first projects we’ll see in the DCU. James Gunn talked about the two characters, saying that Superman is a guy sent to Earth from Krypton and raised by loving parents, while Supergirl witnessed the destruction and death of the Kryptonians, that’s why he’s a much more tired character. Let’s remember that the character has already had film and television transpositions even before Sasha Calle, including Helen Salter in the first film in 1984, and Laura Vandervoort in the series Smallville and from Melissa Benoist in the Arrowverse.
