During an interview with Empire on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton said he was strongly against the possibility of a sequel or reboot of his cult film
Despite the various rumors that have emerged in recent times, it was the director of the cult film The Nightmare Before Christmas himself who excluded the possibility that a revisit could be made. In fact, the director did not mince his words during a recent interview with Empire.
For me the film is very important. I’ve done sequels like Beetlejuice, I’ve done reboots, I’ve done all these things, right? I don’t want that to happen with The Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s nice that people are interested in possible revisits, but I’m not. I feel like an old landowner who owns a small piece of land and doesn’t want to sell it to the big power plant that would like to take over his entire property and rails: ‘Hands off my property! It’s mine, I don’t care what you want to build on it’
The Nightmare Before Christmas turns 30 but it won’t have a reboot, according to Tim Burton
During the interview Burton also talked about his protagonists as Jack Skellington, all highly autobiographical characters, showing a strong attachment to that version of the film. Jack is in fact a character who is perceived as dark, but is actually very positive. He represents all the feelings the director had when I made them.
At the time of its release, The Nightmare Before Christmas was deemed too scary by Disney. The stop-motion animated film, directed by Henry Selick and born from a story by Tim Burton, it was not successful at the box office. Thirty years later, the Nightmare Before Christmas is, however, a cult movie famous throughout the world, as well as one of the most representative of Tim Burton’s unique career.
