“Tomorrow is mine”: Bayonetta’s future is in the hands of PlatinumGames alone and no longer of Hideki Kamiya, as he himself revealed
On a day full of video game backgrounds Hideki Kamiyaco-founder of PlatinumGames as well as the original director of Bayonetta, revealed that the Umbra Witch will have other adventures without him writing them. Before the unexpected divorce with the Japanese studio, the volcanic game designer (to whom we dedicated a special, by the way!) acted as vice president of the development team and supervised several projects, such as the exclusive Nintendo Astral Chain. On his YouTube channel, Kamiya said he expects Cereza and company to continue their ups and downs while expressing regret at not being able to realize his vision for the series.
Bayonetta without Hideki Kamiya: the certain uncertainty of PlatinumGames
“As I explained before, I worked on Bayonetta 1, 2, 3 and Origins,” Kamiya explained. “I talked about it in various interviews, saying that the series would have nine episodes, and that the franchise would have to be a real ‘saga’, but these are all plans that I will have to take to my grave. […] What a pity. It’s not that I have the rights to the IP, but I believe whoever has it will carry it forward.” Even the former colleague Shinji Mikami he has founded his own development team, Tango Gameworks, and will present his plans at an event in Tokyo next month together with Kamiya. Mikami intends to return to video game development at full capacity, following the apparent expiration of a clause that would have prevented him from competing with his first creation: Resident Evil.
