For all those who have subscribed to YouTube Premiumgods will be available video games, or to be precise mini-video games. The platform offers paying users access to a number of online games that can be played directly on the mobile app or desktop app.
YouTube and video games, the step forward for the Premium version
In September this year, YouTube launched the “experimental” function for the video games section on its platform, only for Premium users, therefore for those who pay. The video game section of YouTube is called “Playables” and for everyone who wants to use it will be able to play a total of 37 minigames present on the YouTube platform. You don’t need to download or install them.
YouTube launches video games on its platform, here’s what they are
The video games it offers YouTube they are varied and very simple: in fact they serve to pass the time in a pleasant way. Some of the mini-video games are Angry Birds Showdown, Brain Out, Daily Solitaire, The Daily Crossword and a series of arcade games.
The notification sent to Premium YouTube users also reported how long the video games would be available: until March 28, 2024. For now, Premium members can find the full library of games in the “Playables” section on the Explore tab.
Why are companies targeting the video game sector?
Like many other large technology companies, YouTube is also approaching the vast world of video games. And it is by no means the only one, because the world of video games represents a very interesting and profitable market opportunity.
On the contrary, however, many companies have had to give up the videogames section. For example, Google officially eliminated its service in January Stadia. Just a couple of weeks ago, Amazon cut more than 130 jobs in its free-to-play games division and announced it would reorganize the section. In 2021, TikTok was the first to take over the gaming industry, except just a few days ago ByteDance announced it would lay off about 1,000 workers at its gaming unit.
It’s still. Meta had thrown Instant Games which lasted about seven years. Then the platform this month launched a new distribution model that allows developers to publish beta versions of their games directly to Facebook. Netflixon the other hand, has released games exclusively on mobile devices (reviews of which are quite mixed) and wants to expand into cloud gaming, although it will likely take some time before they are available to the public.
