It’s about The blue avalanchethe director’s new effort Giovanni Veronesi which aims to relive a very fortunate period for Italian sport, the 70s. The title of this docuseries may sound familiar to some, in fact it refers to the expression coined on the occasion of the Berchtesgaden giant slalom, in which five Italians triumphed.
A golden age for skiing | The blue avalanche: a documentary film dedicated to Italian ski champions
The blue avalanche promises to be an exciting journey, told by those who lived those golden years of Italian skiing. The documentary film will focus on the great champions who made this sport the flagship of Italy in the 70s. The clamor of those years profoundly transformed the way of seeing this sport which until then had been considered a niche activity.
The blue avalanche is written by Giovanni Veronesi, Sandro Veronesi, Domenico Procacci, Lorenzo Fabiano e Luca Rea. The docuseries is produced by Domenico Procacci and it’s a production Fandango with Luce Cinecittà in collaboration with Rai Documentari. Construction is still underway.
The skier director
Veronesi is no stranger to this type of documentary film, the film is also his A team, a docuseries dedicated to the 1976 Davis Cup. This new effort was born from the director’s great love for skiing. Remembering how much he fought to become a champion in this discipline; he confessed:
Skiing is like writing without punctuation, without commas or periods, without constraints or gates; skiing is touching absolute freedom and curve after curve, with your thighs burning, being happy. I’m a failed skier, my friends say. Instead I say ‘failed’. I did nothing but ski until I was 14, race after race, to become a champion, and I didn’t make it. This is the push that convinced me to tell the story of the Blue Avalanche. Those are truly my myths, they are what I would have liked to be in life, they are Me inside. There is snow in my memories, there is always snow, and my brain turns white if I don’t stop remembering.
