We zoomed in up to 120x on the Venetian, the Ceasar Palace and all the other Las Vegas casinos – or rather, on a brick-built version of them. What matters is that we did it with the new Realme 12 Pro+ 5Gthe new smartphone presented by the company during CES 2024. A device with a periscope sensor and a main camera really interesting, set in the dial of its design reminiscent of a luxury watch. And it should also arrive in Italy in the next few weeks.
Realme 12 Pro+ 5G, the new smartphone with periscope camera
In a room of the Renaissance hotel in Las Vegas, Realme’s Senior Marketing Communications Manager, Samuel Cheung, explained to us the new ambitions of the Chinese smartphone company. A “young brand that focuses on young users”, which this year however managed to ship its two hundred millionth smartphone.
Strengthened by this growth, Realme changes its slogan from ‘Dare to Leap’ to ‘Make It Real’, underlining the desire to take things even more seriously. Starting with its new Numer Series smartphone, designed for perfect shots at an affordable price: Realme 12 Pro+ 5G.
A powerful zoom for young realme users
Realme conducted research that revealed user preferences more for telephoto lenses with zoom 3X o superiore: a true ‘must-have’ for smartphone cameras. To respond to this demand, realme has developed an innovative solution with its new flagship model, the Realme 12 Pro series, which debuts at CES 2024 with the Pro+ model.
One of the main strengths lies in the arrival of the periscope telephoto lens, a technology that, until now, was reserved mainly for flagship phones. But the sensor used by Realme has nothing to envy of the more expensive models and promises to be the best in its segment.
Realme 12 Pro uses the flagship sensor OV64B, the largest in its segment. With a size of 1/2 inch, surpasses even high-level flagship solutions. The larger aperture and ability to capture more light make the telephoto lens almost three times more sensitive to brightness compared to competitors, guaranteeing clear and detailed images. We weren’t able to take periscope images in the dark, but the photographs taken by the Realme team on the Las Vegas strip yesterday seem full of detail.
Realme 12 Pro+ 5G: a complete photographic department
The Realme 12 Pro series does not disappoint on the main camera front either. The main camera has optics Sony IMX890 OIS, optimizing photography in low light conditions. With a 1/1.56″ sensora 24mm equivalent focal length and a large f/1.8 aperture, and OIS support, which ensures stable video recording and optimizes photo performance, seems really interesting to us.
Furthermore, the Realme 12 Pro series offers one digital zoom up to 120X, which we tested at the event. At this level, we expected some graininess. But we were very impressed by the 3X and 6X shots, really well defined. And although we are waiting to try it calmly in Italy to fully appreciate its use, the first photographs have impressed us.
Realme also collaborated with Qualcomm to enhance image processing through l’algoritmo MasterShot. This algorithm is the first in its segment to process RAW domains, ensuring maximum sharpness, dynamic range and realism in portraits. The MasterShot algorithm integrates the LightFusion Engine for greater sharpness and the NightEye Engine for high-quality night photography.
We were able to take some shots with the new Realme 12 Pro+ 5G: by scrolling through the gallery below you can see the zooms at 1x, 3x, 6x and 120x.
A luxury watch design
Another detail that we were able to appreciate about Realme 12 Pro+ is the exclusive design developed in collaboration with the international designer of luxury watches, Ollivier Savéo. Who worked with Rolex, Roger Dubuis, Piaget and others. For Realme, he developed a gold serrated bezel, a shiny Sunburst dial, premium vegan leather and a 3D Jubilee bracelet: a “luxury watch” on the back of your smartphone.
At the moment Realme has not disclosed price and availability, but the Italian team told us that the launch is scheduled for January. So we might try them more slowly soon: we’ll keep you informed.
