This week in Las Vegas we saw lots and lots of technology. Trying dozens of gadgets every day may have made us a little stupid, but CES 2024 also made us discover tech wonders which amazed us, enchanted us, convinced us. At the end of our trip to Nevada, we on the Tech Princess team discussed and found the seven tech innovations that we liked most at this CES.
CES 2024, the 7 tech gadgets we liked most at CES
For those like us who breathe technology, Las Vegas it is the city of love (and not just for the fake versions of the Eiffel Tower and St. Mark’s Campanile on the Strip). During these days of CES 2024, we were interested in winning technological solutions, we were amazed by the revolutionary gadgets, and the most absurdly ingenious products at the fair made us laugh.
Returning to our Airbnb in the evening, we discussed the importance of key listings and reflected on the most obvious trends. But in this article, which we write while waiting for the return flight, we just want remember the tech gadgets we liked most at CES 2024. Not necessarily the most significant, without the need to explain revolutions: we just want to tell you about the objects and software solutions that made us fall in love with Las Vegas.
Transparent TVs from Samsung and LG
Transparent displays are nothing new. But before CES 2024, gadgets had always seemed suitable only to amaze during trade fairs (or at most in shopping centres). LG instead announced that will launch its Signature OLED T on the market in 2024. And even if it will remain a TV for a few (and with good spending possibilities), it seems to us to be more usable than all the TV displays seen to date: with a touch on the remote control, you can raise a black “sheet” behind the display and transform it into a classic LG TV.
But LG is not the only one to have presented a similar innovation at CES. Also Samsung, among the many innovations for its screens, has launched a transparent television. This however uses i MicroLED, still with prohibitive yet extremely interesting prices. With LEDs that you can only see under a microscope, this technology could one day become the benchmark for TVs. Which may not all be transparent, but we like this possibility to exist.
Wouldn’t you like a real aquarium behind the TV instead of a screensaver?
Nvidia uses AI to make us talk to NPCs in video games
Nvidia worked with Convai to bring a novelty to Las Vegas that all gaming enthusiasts wanted to test – and we couldn’t miss it. This is a truly intriguing idea: the possibility of communicating with NPCs (non-playable characters in a video game) using generative AI.
Non-Playable Characters can speak and interact with the surrounding world as if they were real people. Instead of characters who continually repeat the same pre-set phrases (the guards in Skyrim have told us a million times about the time they took an arrow in the knee), we will be able to converse with NPCs in a natural way. Every time a character in GTA insults us heavily, he will do it in a unique way.
Miroki, the most sociable gadget of CES 2024
After spending a week walking around the stands looking for tech innovations, there was a gadget that found us instead: the robot Miroki. The startup Enchanted Tools has created an entire species of these robots, the Mirokai, which are born for sociability and to help people. They move fluidly, look guests in hotels and businesses in the eyes, talk to patients in hospitals and retirement homes.
They have strong arms to carry weights, and LED faces to empathize with: we spent a few minutes with Miroki and he knew how to keep us company. And then they seem to have come out of Ratchet & Clankwhich is a big plus for us.
Our favorite gadgets at CES 2024: LG Duobo
At CES 2024, LG presented many interesting gadgets. But perhaps because coffee is the real black gold during an intense fair like the one in Las Vegas, the robot Duobo it impressed us a lot. It allows you to mix the coffee capsules, even of different brands. From the app you can create your perfect aroma with extreme ease. And then it looks a bit like a mix between Eve from Wall-E and a lunar lander.
This is the giant version at LG’s booth
Furthermore, in the display under the robot you can find information on the coffee you are drinking, or videos and entertainment to pass the time while the drink reaches the perfect temperature. We never thought we’d say this, but caffeine and robotics are a perfect mix.
Oorion, the application that helps blind people find objects with AI
This app is there‘we found at CES Unveiled, the very first event we covered in Las Vegas. Yet, the impression he left on us remains even now that we are about to leave the United States. Oorion allows the blind and visually impaired people to find objects using smartphone cameras.
Just say what type of object you want to find (for example “bottle” or “hat”) and then move the smartphone to frame it. The application, which you can also find on the App Store, also allows you to search for writings (for example “shampoo” or “vinegar”) and to describe the objects present in a new room, such as that of a hotel. A solution that reminded us of the enormous potential of technology (and why we love it so much).
Reencle, the CES 2024 gadget that turns food scraps into fertilizer
We didn’t think we’d ever say this, but we fell in love with a rubbish bin. But how could we resist the charm of the simplicity of Reencle? This solution turns food scraps and waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer for your plants.
Once connected to the electricity, you must add the organic compound sold together with Reencle and add a liter of water. Then, throw in banana peels and dinner leftovers (there is a photocell to open it when you get close). Nothing else is needed: after a day, inside you will find organic compost for your plants. Facile e greenas we would like all tech gadgets to be.
The Osim massage chairs, with Pininfarina design
We have to admit it: perhaps we chose this product not only for the technology behind it, but also by the time we found out among the pavilions of the Venetian Hotel. Last day of the fair, with tired legs and sore shoulders from the backpack: there is no better time to find some massage chairs.
But those of Except they are really interesting chairs. There are both gaming models and armchairs. In both cases, under the vegan skin you will find powerful arms that massage in a truly satisfying way. We all tried them and smiled in ecstasy. As if that wasn’t enough, Osim also co-designed an armchair with Pininfarina, combining full-body massage with the best of Italian design. These chairs made us relax in style.
These seven gadgets are the ones we liked the most at CES 2024: for different reasons, that’s all of them technological memories that we bring home from Las Vegas. Which ones impressed you the most? Let us know in the comments.
