As much as Apple hoped for an “ad-iOS”, Fortnite was just a goodbye: Epic Games brings the island back to Don Torsolone
Since the videogame industry is also made up of pebbles to be removed from one’s shoes, the mockery of Epic Games towards Apple is evident from the first lines of the tweet below: “Remember Fortnite are iOS? What do you think, we’ll take it back.” This mostly concerns us lucky ones from the Old Continent, but on balance the European law will act in an unspecified period of the current year as a marriage counselor for the two parties involved in the largest legal dispute that the history of video games has ever known up to now. In case a reminder was needed on the matter, the battle royale publisher’s rebellion against the percentage imposed by the apple empire has had a domino effect that we have talked about on several occasions.
Remember Fortnite on iOS?
How bout we bring that back.
Later this year Fortnite will return in Europe on iOS through the @EpicGames Store.
(shoutout DMA – an important new law in the EU making this possible). @Applethe world is watching. pic.twitter.com/VdHWTe8i1c— Fortnite (@FortniteGame) January 25, 2024
“Apple, the world is watching”: the passive-aggressive return of Epic Games and Fortnite on iOS
Continuing, the tweet declares that “Later in 2024 Fortnite will return to iOS in Europe via the Epic Games Store,” thanking an “important European law that made this possible” before reminding Apple that “the world is watching.” There GIF Bananita’s dirty look towards the frame then completes the bizarre picture. The new policy of the company founded by the late Steve Jobs will allow other marketplaces on its devices, including the aforementioned EGS, bringing the battle royale back to the smart devices it mocked with “Don Torsolone” after more than three years. For non-European territories, the wait due to legal times could continue for another couple of years.
