While waiting for the second season to arrive (which had already been confirmed even before the first was published), let’s analyze our beloved demonic protagonists who have won our hearts. SPOILER WARNING! If you haven’t seen the series yet, don’t continue reading, come back when you catch up.
Charlie Morningstar | Hazbin Hotel: the magic of characters
Let’s start with the undisputed protagonist: Charlie Morningstar. Daughter of Lucifer (or Lucifer Morningstar), is the heart of the series, the demon who without the slightest shadow of a doubt knows better than any other angel what the pardon. This can already be understood from the simple fact that Charlie believes in the souls of sinners, he firmly believes that they can obtain the redemption and can always see the buono in each of them. Precisely for this reason the kind, polite and adorable daughter of Lucifer created theHazbin Hotel, the ideal place where everyone can be forgiven, repent of their sins, become better people and thus have access to Heaven. He has an ideal, a goal, an altruism that has not been seen either in Hell or in Heaven.
From the beginning the girl gives her all to ensure that her friends and colleagues at the hotel are the first to get redemption. She works hard to enable others to stop suffering and achieve eternal peace. The first proof can already be seen in the first episodes, when it arrives Sir. Pentiousinitially an infiltrator and follower of ‘s nemesis Alastor. The poor demonic cobra gets caught right from the start, and when everyone wanted to kill him, Charlie is the first to offer him her hand, the first to give him a second chance, which is the main goal of the Hazbin Hotel. A girl with a heart of gold, altruistic and aware of what is truly right.
Vaggie | Hazbin Hotel: the magic of characters
Initially Vaggie she simply seems like a supporting character for Charlie, being his girlfriend and his right-hand man in running the hotel. From the beginning, however, the girl has always been guided byamore that he felt towards the main protagonist. Everything she did was for Charlie: managing the hotel, protecting her from every danger, supporting her every choice of her loved one, but always with a great fighting spirit. Even as her supporting character he made a fool of her, covering her lover’s back on multiple occasions. But when we discover that all this time Vaggie was actually a angelothings are completely turned upside down.
Let’s find out her story, what she did and why she ended up in Hell. Vaggie is another of the victims of the corruption of Paradise. She has always been a great warrior, but she was guided by love towards the weak and defenseless. She is seen in a flashback, when she and other angels attacked Hell during an extermination. When she decides to spare a terrified child, you can see his kindness and his big heart. She sacrificed herself for the life of an ordinary child, letting her superior tear off her wings, gouge out her eye and then be abandoned in Hell and saved shortly after by Charlie herself. Thus begins their love story.
Alastor | Hazbin Hotel: the magic of characters
Alastor he is perhaps the most enigmatic and unpredictable character of the entire series. His nature is not entirely clear, you can’t understand if he is one of the good guys or one of the bad guys, but that’s what makes him a character very charming. His unpredictability and aura of mystery capture your attention whenever he is on screen, it is impossible to look away when he is on screen. He has many peculiarities that make him one of the most beautiful characters in the series, like his radio voicehis mischievous smile and its superb elegance. There are so many reasons to love this character, despite his actions.Yes, because as we said before, It’s unclear which side he’s on.
What we know about him is that in his mortal life he was a owner of a radio station and that he made a deal with a demon. We don’t know anything else about his past, they will probably explain it to us in the next season. However, we know what he did as a demon: uses the radio to capture the souls of sinners and become strongerbut he also has direct methods to take over other people’s souls which can be summarized in a single power: the deal. This particular characteristic makes the character of Alastor unsettlingwhich is why no one wants to go against him and indeed, it is better to have him as an ally, considering that he was even capable of facing Adamo. It can be said that Alastor is more similar to the Devil of Christian mythologyhe’s a character mysterious and fascinating.
Angel Dust | Hazbin Hotel: the magic of characters
Angel Dust he’s another of those characters who initially seem just a support, a side dish or in any case to make people laugh, but they have a heartbreaking story. Angel is a gay spider demon who behaves like a woman, has very sensual and sexy behavior, it is no coincidence that he works as porn actor. The gags he creates while hitting on other characters (especially with Husk) are very funny and as a comic character it already works in itself. A “secondary” character who is always able to make the scenes more lively and bring out a laugh. But, like all the other characters, Angel is much more than a comic character. In an episode dedicated to him, we discover how horrible his working life is. His boss ValentinoIn fact, he has no respect for him, and treats him like a sexual toy with which to vent his fantasies.
Angel loves doing his job, but he hates working for his boss, who is there main source of his problems. Thanks to Charlie’s rehabilitation program, however, Angel begins to change. When Charlie goes to Heaven to convince the Angels that redemption for the souls of Hell is possible, Angel becomes living proof of this. When he goes to a sex club, protects little Nifty, the energetic cyclops child of the hotel, and begins to take responsibility by ignoring all the temptations to drink and take drugs, making even Husk himself proud. Angel Dust is the first example of the soul of a sinner who is capable of improving himself, remedying his mistakes and thus obtaining redemption of one’s soul. Simply put, he is an inspiration to souls who want to redeem themselves.
Husk | Hazbin Hotel: the magic of characters
Another character with a dark and tormented past is Husk, the demonic cat who works as a bartender in Charlie’s Hazbin Hotel. Husk is one of those characters who always acts tough and doesn’t show that he has emotions, but deep down he has a big heart. As we said before, Husk is Angel’s favorite prey, he very often receives advances from him. Advances that the cat rejects every single time, creating some very funny interludes between the two and becoming the comic duo of the series. Husk always pretends to feel nothing but pure annoyance towards Angel and anyone who bothers him. He only thinks about his work and doesn’t want to be tied to anyone. But even in this case, Husk has its own historyhe has reasons why he became like this.
Husk was a demonic alcoholic cat, a huge lover of alcohol and also gambling. The latter is the most important point of his story. Gambling was his condemnation. The first was one Supreme Lord of Hellafter betting in a match against Alastor, the latter wins and takes possession of his soul. Husk loses everything he had and becomes his slave. He who can bring out feelings is his own Angel, to which he inevitably became fond. She proves this by saving his life in a sex club, when perverts tried to sexually violate Angel by drugging him with a drink. Husk thus demonstrates that he cares about his friends and, consequently, has a heart and feelings even him.
Sir Pentious | Hazbin Hotel: the magic of characters
This is really a sore point, especially for all those who had grown fond of the character (us included). As mentioned before, Sir Pentious he is Charlie’s first guest in the Hazbin Hotel who is committed from the beginning to trying to redeem himself. Sir Pentious is Much obliged towards Charlie, who immediately forgave him after spying as he infiltrated the hotel on behalf of Vox. When she obtains Charlie’s forgiveness, she immediately begins the path of redemption of the demonic cobra, helping the hotel as much as possible (albeit with much fear). Sir Pentious is shown to be very unsure of himself, aware that he is not much of a threat and that he has been defeated many times by his opponents.
However, evolution comes to him too. Over the course of the episodes he gains more and more courage and self-confidence. Perhaps he is the character who has evolved more than the others throughout the entire history of the series. He goes from being a coward to someone willing to sacrifice himself for the people he loves and the ideals he believes in. Sir Pentious believes in Charlie a lot right from the start, which is why he worked a lot on himself to repay his debt. In the final battle, Sir Pentious sacrifices himself to save the Hazbin Hotel and all of Hell, finally gaining the respect from others that he so longed for. But not only that, this evolutionary path that she has faced has also made her the first redeemed demonwho once died became an angel. Sir Pentious has proven that redemption is possible.
Because I’m the devil who’s searching for redemption
All the characters in Hazbin Hotel give us a great lesson: we can be better people. The goal of Charlie’s Hotel is precisely to allow anyone to have a second chance. We all make mistakes in life, we are not perfect beings and we make choices we regret. The message that the series wants to convey is precisely this: we are imperfect human beings. “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”? Well, apparently no one can throw that stone, because we all make mistakes. But the characters in Hazbin Hotel prove that we can fix our mistakes and thus obtain redemption. This redemption, however, is not to access Paradise, but to be at peace with ourselves. This is Hazbin Hotel.
What do you…
