Nikon Z 8: firmware version 2.00 announced

Nikon has released firmware version 2.00 for the Nikon Z 8 FX format (full frame) mirrorless camera. Let’s find out the details together

Nikon has announced a major firmware update for the Nikon Z 8 since its launch and offers a significant improvement in photographic and video shooting, thanks to the integration of advanced functions already available in the Nikon Z 9 and also in the Nikon Z f.

With wildlife photographers in mind, the dedicated AF subject detection function has been added to the options [Uccelli], increasing bird recognition performance in a variety of high-contrast backgrounds, such as forests and mountains, and in various states, such as flying or perching. This is to allow users to produce extremely sharp shots in every situation, even with hard-to-identify looking birds.

Nikon Z 8: firmware version 2.00 announced

Firmware version 2.00 for the Z 8 adds the new feature Auto Capture which introduces automatic shooting for both photos and videos by pre-configuring related criteria, including motion, distance and object detection. These options can be used separately or together, depending on the user’s needs. Furthermore, the guarantee of obtaining high resolution photos is now possible thanks to the new pixel shift shooting function, using dedicated software to merge multiple NEF (RAW) files. This is ideal for capturing the smallest details in subjects with complex designs, such as buildings and works of art, with faithful rendering of the subject’s colors, textures and structures.

Additionally, the firmware update offers a new rich-toned Picture Control dedicated to Portrait. By taking advantage of the rich tones of your subjects, it allows you to preserve the most interesting details, essential for portrait photography.
In fact, users can now assign additional functions and operations to the custom control and have the ability to exit the zoom by half-pressing the shutter button, a function that improves the overall usability of the Nikon Z 8.
