Brembo, a Bergamo-based company leader in the braking systems sector, worked on the brakes of the hypercars for the FIA World Endurance Championship (Wec)
The 19th hypercar involved in FIA World Endurance Championship (Wec)which will start from Qatar il February 25, 2024, will have at least one Brembo or Ap Racing brake component. In the 2024 season, Brembo will supply at least one of its own components braking systems to the nine manufacturers involved in the premier Hypercar class. These manufacturers include Alpine, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Isotta Fraschini, Lamborghini, Peugeot, Porsche and Toyota. Brembo has focused on optimizing the ventilation and size of the brake discs. The discs will have one maximum thickness of 38 mm and a maximum diameter of 380 mm, with an expected life of over 6,000 km. The disc ventilation holes are 432, with a range of operating temperature between 250°C and 850°C. The friction material used is carbon, which effectively combines the ability to dissipate heat with lightness.
Hypercar brakes: this is how Brembo technicians work for the WEC
The partnership of success between Brembo and the FIA World Endurance Championship saw a transition from Lmp1 prototypes to modern Hypercars. Brembo, already the official supplier of braking technologies, contributed to the success of the 100th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In view of the season debut, Brembo technicians focused on the balance between lightness, stiffness and reliability of the braking systems. The carbon friction materialwhen used correctly, is designed to last for the entire competition, without the need for replacements during races. Brembo thus confirms its commitment to offering advanced solutions for the world of endurance racing. These are the group’s statements Brembo:
The incredibly low wear also allows performance to be maintained unchanged and repeatable from start to finish. In a regularity competition, in which the car passes through extremely variable conditions, having a braking system that guarantees repeatable performance and predictable response is certainly one of the keys to success.
