The Nintendo Delta emulator is ready to conquer iPads
Developer Riley Testut shared an update on Threads this weekend, revealing that an iPad-optimized version is in development. Not only that: “porting” to the iPad has taken priority since Apple changed its approach towards game emulators.
According to Testut, the iPad app would be “almost complete” and subscribers to his Patreon can already get it via AltStorean alternative marketplace created by the developer a few years ago for sideloading iOS and iPadOS apps.
But the real advantage is being able to download it directly from the App Store. To do so, you will have to wait for the next major update Delta, version 1.6, to play on the Apple tablet.
In his post on Threads, Testut also shared a small preview of how Delta will work on iPad. The emulator, born as a successor to GBA4iOS (Testut's own Game Boy Advance emulator), supports a number of Nintendo systems, including NES, SNES, N64 e DS.
According to the developer, the team is currently working to finalize the controller skins and fix some residual bugs before release on iPad.

But the surprises don't end there. Testut has in fact revealed that the team is also working on the implementation of the device-to-device multiplayer.- This functionality will still take some time to perfect. But the potential could be enormous: it will be like playing with the “Game Link” between two Game Boys, as many enthusiasts have done for years.

Furthermore, as the icing on the cake, he announced that a emulator for SEGA Genesis. Currently in beta, this new emulator should be available “fairly soon,” according to the developer. The priority remains the arrival on iPad, but they are working on it.
But is it okay to play with retro console emulators?
If you have never played with an emulator (or have never thought about it, despite playing it), perhaps you are wondering whether it is legal to use Delta as an emulator, on iPhone or iPad. Emulators themselves are not illegal, as long as they are developed without copying or stealing the original code of emulated consoles (as happens for Delta). It seems that Riley Testut and his team created the emulator from scratch, without violating any intellectual property rights.
However, downloading and distributing game ROMs is a different matter. Nintendo clearly writes that doing so is illegal, as it violates copyright. Even if you own a physical copy of the game, downloading a ROM and playing it on another console (or an iPad) violates the policy.
Judging from the download record of Delta and other emulators, Since they have been available on the iPhone, it seems however that many users are finding a way to exploit them anyway. And soon they will be able to do it on iPad too.
