Takashi Iizuka, Team Lead of the new Sonic game arriving in 2022 and still without a definitive title, admitted that the announcement of the title in question may have been premature. Iizuka has specified that the reveal was done to take advantage of the media window of the thirtieth anniversary of the blue porcupine, but the launch of the game could still be quite far away.
Sonic 2022: how long is the new game missing?
In an interview with the editorial staff of 4Gamer, Iizuka stated the following: “We haven’t announced a new game for the Sonic series since Sonic Forces, and fans were starting to worry. Even if it was a bit premature, I at least wanted to take the 30th anniversary opportunity to announce that a new title is in development “.
The new Sonic game, which according to a leak should be called Sonic Rangers, is expected to arrive in 2022, without a definitive launch window yet. The title is expected to come out on all platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch e PC. For the moment we don’t even know how the gameplay will be structured, as only a very short teaser trailer has been shown.
However, given that the announcement was defined as premature by Iizuka himself, we can reasonably imagine that the development of Sonic 2022 it is still in its infancy and could even postpone to 2023. Such a delay would not be a surprise, given how difficult the studies were during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In short, it looks like the Sonic Team definitely has their job to do if they want to wow fans with Sonic 2022. 2017’s Sonic Forces, while enjoyable, failed to bring the series back to life in the same way that Sonic Mania did. , of more classical inspiration. We just have to wait to find out what the team has in store for us.
