Warner Bros and NetherRealm Studios just announced that Mortal Kombat 11 has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide. At the same time, the mobile version of the game has surpassed 138 million downloads. This is a very important record for the series, which is reconfirmed as one of the most loved fighting sagas of all time.
Record Mortal Kombat 11: 12 million copies sold
“When Mortal Kombat first launched nearly 30 years ago, I never imagined it would become the franchise it is today with more than 73 million games sold overall,” he said. Ed Boon, creative director of NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of Mortal Kombat – We have some of the most passionate fans in the world and we appreciate the support they have shown us over the years.
The number of 73 million Boon refers to is the total number of copies sold of the franchise during all its incarnations, from the first to the eleventh. An impressive number, even bearing in mind that Mortal Kombat is one of the longest-running series currently active on the contemporary gaming market.
The study confirmed a few weeks ago that Mortal Kombat 11 will no longer receive DLC, which ends support for the title two years after its release. This data could indicate that the software house is already working on its next project, which according to many could be a new Injustice title.
However, Boon has always made it known that the Marvel it could be part of his next upcoming game, which paves the way for a number of interesting perspectives. Either way it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out more, that NetherRealm Studios doesn’t seem to have any upcoming announcements planned.
