From the hum, in the distance, you think of one ‘swarm of bees approaching‘. But no, as soon as you see them you see that series of noses of Formula E cars.
ABBfor the ninth edition of the championship, is not only the sponsor, but takes to the track to recharge them.
The mobile charging station revolution starts on the track
The hot weekend in the Eternal City doesn’t stop the championship ABB Formula E. On the tried and tested circuit of the district ofEurthe sustainable single-seaters drive around with their ‘gladiators’.
Thus, the historic Roman buildings: the Palazzo dei Congressi, Piazza Guglielmo Marconi and the iconic Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana enter and write a new page of history, in the volume dedicated to electric mobility.
The sporting event, followed by millions of fans all over the world, also fascinates for single seater. These are models of eco-sustainable technological innovation, which ignite healthy competition without emissions.
The role of the mobile charging station
Yes, but full of energy? Gen3 cars will do it ABBwith the new mobile charging stations.
The ABB column recharges up to a power of 160 kW. They can connect to it 2 cars at the same time. Of course, each single-seater with one maximum power of 80 kW.
Compact and able to be easily transported, the charging station has been designed and tested to impact the environment as little as possible.
This was specially created by ABB together with the technicians of Fia and of Formula E. Above all, its role is to load the cars before the race, at half-time, between sessions.

Electric? It can be done, just put the right energy into it
Let’s start from Roma to talk about sustainable mobility and a global motorsport event. Until a few years ago no point would have united them, now, on the occasion of the stage of ABB FIA Formula E World Championship there are many.
We were guests of the round table that was held before the competition, where among the many topics touched upon, there is that of how much do we know about electric mobility e how we can harness electricity in our daily life.
This is how motorsport becomes an ambassador of sustainability and through electric single-seaters and is able to offer a great show to the public. At the same time, however, it shows us that the way electricity is fast and an ally to reduce pollution.
Gianluca LilliSenior Vice President – ABB Electrification Commercial Leader, Italy and Member of the Board of Directors of ABB SpA, declares: “Rome does not shine for traffic, this is how a motorsport event, where technology dominates the event shows that we can not only change our habits, but we can have fun and pollute less”.
The beauty of electricity
“In the future, the demand for electricity from cities will increase and all structures will have to be contained. Let’s just think about how much buildings and our homes consume every day, to be heated and refrigerated, in addition to the needs related to appliances and more”. It is the reflection of Alessandro PueroniLead Motion Manager South Europe and Italy since 2019, General Manager Motion Italy and is part of the Italian Leadership Team of ABB in Italy.
“It is necessary to act on technology, to provide society with the need to achieve comfort and safety. Above all, we need numerous modular investments made over time capable of analyzing and identifying new renewable sources”, concludes Pueroni.
Thinking electric also means
“In change there are transformations, let’s start from the world of work”. He claims Antonio De BellisE-mobility Lead Manager and responsible for ABB’s E-mobility business development in Italy.
“We can produce, export energy and create skills, therefore new jobs. Above all, it is necessary to raise awareness of the importance of using electricity which involves many aspects of our daily lives every day. In order to be understood, the electrification process must be known in all its aspects and there is still a lot to do in this regard”.
