Presented in competition at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, the second film directed by Pietro Castellitto will arrive in Italian cinemas on January 11th: here is the trailer for Enea
After a truly remarkable debut, that of I Predatori, and after a handful of significant roles as a solo performer, Pietro Castellitto returns behind the camera with Eneaa film presented in competition at the 2023 Venice Film Festival and in cinemas throughout Italy from 11 January 2024 with Vision Distribution.
Also in this new film of his, which he also wrote like the previous one, Castellitto talks about a world that is rarely taken into consideration by Italian cinema: that of a certainly not a left-wing bourgeoisie, in this specific case that of the infamous Northern Romeand of rich, bored and indolent scions who vent their existential emptiness in purely hedonistic activities.
Aeneas by Pietro Castellitto: the plot and the trailer
Aeneas chases the myth that bears in his name, he does it for feeling alive in a dead and decadent era. He does it together with Valentino, a newly baptized aviator. The two, in addition to dealing and partying, share youth. Friends forever, victims and creators of a corrupt world, but driven by an incorruptible vitality. Beyond the boundaries of the rules, on the other side of morality, there is a sea full of humanity and symbols to discover. Aeneas and Valentino will fly over it to the most extreme consequences. However, drugs and crime are the invisible shadow of a story that talks about something else: a melancholic father, a brother who fights at school, a mother defeated by love and a beautiful girl, a happy ending and a happy death, a palm tree falling on a glass world. It is in the midst of the cracks of everyday life that Aeneas and Valentino’s adventure slowly unravels. An adventure that will appear criminal to others, but which for them is, and will be, first of all, an adventure of friendship and love.
In the cast of the film, in addition to Pietro Castellitto, there are Giorgio Quarzo Guarascio and Benedetta Porcaroli and then again Chiara Noschese, Giorgio Montanini, Adamo Dionisi, Matteo Branciamore, Clara Galante, Paolo Giovannucci, not to mention the father and brother of the director, Sergio and Cesarewho also reprise their familiar roles in the film.
