Xbox has announced the availability of Return of Romethe new expansion (DLC) of Age of Empires II: Definitive Editionthe famous real-time strategy game.
The DLC is available today for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta), Steam and Windows PC and offers fans of the saga an independent experience that pays homage to the first Age of Empires.
Age of Empires II: all the news of the Return of Rome DLC
Return of Rome includes new exclusive content, including:
- Three new campaigns with narrative voice retracing the deeds of Sargon of Akkad, the founder of the Sumerian empire, Pyrrhus of Epirus, the Macedonian king who challenged Rome, and Trajan, the Roman emperor who expanded the empire’s borders.
- Sixteen new civilizations drawn from the first Age Of Empires, such as the Egyptians, Babylonians and Persians, as well as the new Lac Viet, a civilization based on the history of Vietnam.
- Ability to play as the Romans in all modes single-player and unrated multiplayer of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. The Romans will also be enabled for ranked multiplayer modes in a future update.
- The D3 modea variant of the game that is inspired by a set of rules popularized in the Vietnamese Age of Empires eSports scene.
- Numerous other new features and improvements to the gamesuch as new units, buildings, technologies and cards.
Finally, in a post on Xbox Wire, Earnest Yuenexecutive producer of World’s Edge, the study that deals with the development of the Age of Empires saga, revealed some background on the creation of the new DLC and explained how the team wanted to pay homage to the first chapter of the series, while maintaining compatibility and balance with Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.
