A few years ago Google redesigned Android Auto in order to best meet the needs of users. A somewhat risky action, considering that the application should have been closed, and instead has remained available at least until today. In fact, in 2019, the technological giant found itself late with the release of the Google Assistant driving mode – launched only in early 2020 -, which forced him to find an alternative solution. Now, however, the situation seems to have completely reversed. And as already anticipated by Google, the smartphone version is about to be discontinued.
Android Auto: Google confirms its disposal
In recent days, many Android users are claiming to have seen messages that report that the version of the smartphone application is no longer available. “Android Auto is now only available for car screens. On your phone, try the Google Assistant driving mode instead. In this way, the tech giant is inviting its users to use a tool it has been making available for a while now. Google itself has confirmed that the tool will not be included in the Android 12 update.
“The Google Assistant driving mode is our next evolution of the mobile driving experience. For people using Android Auto in supported vehicles, that experience won’t go away. Those who use the experience on their phone will transition to the Google Assistant driving mode. Starting with Android 12, the Google Assistant driving mode will be the integrated mobile driving experience. We have no further details to share at this time ”. So the tech giant definitely says goodbye to Android Auto, at least on smartphones. Thus closes a chapter already finished for some time, and we take one on which Google had already been working for quite a while.
