Welcome to this new episode of Aperit-Hero! Once again we find ourselves talking about legendary and monstrous creatures, but ones on which the world needs to count for its survival. The protagonist of today’s Aperit-Hero is Kong, the monstrous hero and protector of humanity!
We’re just a few weeks away from the release of Godzilla X Kong: The New Empirewhich is why we decided, especially after dedicating an Aperit-Hero episode dedicated to Godzilla, to talk at this point about another giant and legendary monster: Kong! In particular we analyze it in the most popular franchise dedicated to the kaiju in the world, which for ten years now has been enjoying considerable success and fame, so much so that the previous film with the two kaiju protagonists, Godzilla VS Kong, which was the highest-grossing film during the pandemic.
After seeing the trailer for Godzilla X Kong, the time has come to also analyze Kong and try to understand how things will go for him in the highly anticipated film.
Skull Island | Aperit-Hero: Kong, the defender of humanity
The story of our beloved giant ape begins in what is the second film of the Monsterverse, that is Kong: Skull Island. This is the very first time we see Kong in the cinematic universe dedicated to kaiju and his legendary creatures. In this film, Kong is nothing but a puppyand from what we can also understand from the film, Kong would be the last of his kinda poor giant ape who lives alone and tries to survive in the most dangerous place in the world, Skull Island. On this island it is said that there was a great war, which led many creatures to become extinct and Kong is one of the few survivors. Even though he is in his adolescent phase, Kong is still a creature that is very feared and respected on the island, capable of facing any enemy who tries to attack and kill him.
However, despite his enormous size and aggressiveness in combat, Kong quickly proves to be a gentle giant. Yes, because it will also be true that, when other giant creatures attack him, the giant ape is able to break the jaws of all the reptilians and other creatures who try to kill him. But while he is a very skilled and ferocious fighter, on the other he is a very empathetic creature. This can be understood from all the times the team led by the captain James Conrad, starring Tom Hiddleston, alongside Dr. Mason Weaver. The two together study the environment and try to understand what happened on the island and come across gigantic and monstrous creatures. But Kong saves them every single time, demonstrating that he cares about humanity and feels great empathy towards them. Obviously only with those who deserve it, given that Colonel Packard he wanted to kill the creature, but ended up dying.
A generational war | Aperit-Hero: Kong, the defender of humanity
The second time we see Kong is in Godzilla VS Konga film in which we begin to see not only the lore behind this famous great war between the titans, but also the Kong’s past. They don’t show us clearly with scenes what happened, but they hint at it with some references and some research. The movie input is Godzilla attacking various Monarch facilities, wreaking havoc across the globe. For this reason, the King of Monsters is considered a threat to humanity and no longer the hero he had acclaimed since he stopped the MUTOs and Ghidora. For this, a research team on Skull Island wanted recruit Kong, considered the only one capable of fighting Godzilla and defeating him. A very intense battle, as the two families have clashed for centuries for dominion. During the first battle, Kong was unable to defeat Godzilla, who instead gave him a hard time. After that first attack, they become convinced that to defeat Godzilla, Kong needs to become stronger and more powerful.
But how could an ape with brute strength alone defeat a radioactive lizard with an atomic ray? The answer lies in Hollow Earth, which the Skull Island Monarch research team decided to visit together with the ape. In this place it is discovered another world, completely unknown to ours and never explored. Here Kong finds some remains of the old civilization, ruled not only by the Titans, but also by humanity. Among the various cave paintings, in any case, he also finds paintings of his ancestors fighting against other specimens of Godzilla. This proves that the war it has been going on for thousands of years. A war that however ends when the real threat reveals itself to be Mecha-Godzilla. Kong and Godzilla then decide to team up to face the giant robot created by Monarch, succeeding and saving the world together.
A great alliance
After the events of Godzilla VS Kong, our beloved ape now has a trusted ally that you can count on. From the incipit that Legendary gave us with the first trailers, in fact, it is clear that Kong must face a formidable opponent, Touch. This ape should be the greatest threat that even Godzilla has ever faced, not so much for his power, but for his intellect. In fact, Skar wants to establish a new empire, wiping out humanity and becoming its king. Something he is also managing to do, with an army of great apes, who obey his orders and are ready to take control of the Earth. For this, Kong will need his trusty battle partner Godzilla to stop this great threat. We just have to find out if they will succeed and how strong his alliance and friendship with the King of Monsters will become.
