The new chip Apple M2 it should arrive in the second half of 2022, with better performances and one GPU that goes up to 10-cores. MacBook Airs with the new processor should be “marginally” best than the current ones, but with graphical improvements and in terms of energy efficiency.
Apple M2, “marginally faster” and with 10-core GPU
The news comes once again from Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, who explains how the new Apple Silicon chip will slightly improve overall performance compared to the MacBook Air unveiled until 2020. Indeed, although the laptop itself is expected to have a new design and many new hardware, the chip will not be revolutionary. Although it follows the hype of the M1, which has amazed all analysts in this abundant year on the market.
According to reports, the CPU architecture should be similar, with a 8-core per M2 as for M1. Even if the process a 5 nanometers with which TSMC is producing the semiconductors of which it is composed could bring several improvements, especially in terms of energy efficiency.
Currently, the M1 can run at 7W while consuming 39 watts at maximum load, while the new chip is expected to perform slightly better with less power consumed. But the main difference Gurman predicted lies in the GPU. In fact it might have a design a 10-core, compared to the current 8.
Better graphics performance, therefore. Which add up to the alleged arrival of the notch to reduce the screen frames, to the possible arrival of technology mini–LED for the display and new colors for the body. Furthermore, rumors suggest that it could come with wireless charging via MagSafe and with a door Thunderbolt 4 on each side.
The new MacBook Air with Apple M2 should arrive in the second half of 2022. And even if those who already have the model with M1 will not see major improvements in terms of performance, there will be many interesting news. We will keep you posted.
