Apple today launched one of the new features of iOS 15 shown for the first time at the WWDC. In collaboration with the structures of the brand Hyatt Hotels, Apple users will be able to use their iPhone, or Apple Watch, in place of room keys via Apple Wallet. This will initially be possible in the 6 hotels that will start supporting this initiative.
Apple launches key support on Apple Wallet
The process of activating your key is very simple. Just add the key to Wallet in much the same way you add a movie ticket or DisneyWorld pass, using the hotelier app. As soon as the reservation is made it will be possible add the key to the Wallet app to have it ready for your arrival at the hotel.
At that point it will be enough to approach l’iPhone o l’Apple Watch to your bedroom door to gain access. Of course, in case you were wondering, the Wallet key won’t actually unlock the door until check-in time. The room number will be visible on the digital magnetic key and, if you later need to change rooms or extend your stay, the magnetic key can be updated over the air without having to physically visit the reception.
The first six structures supporting this initiative include the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, the Hyatt Centric Key West Resort & Spa, the Hyatt House Chicago / West Loop-Fulton Market, the Hyatt House Dallas / Richardson, the Hyatt Place Fremont / Silicon Valley and the Hyatt Regency Long Beach.
Magnetic keys in Apple Wallet support Express mode, so you don’t even need to authenticate with Face ID o Touch ID to access the key, just bring the device close to the reader and that’s it. The magnetic key will be available even if the iPhone has a low battery and up to 5 hours when the device is completely discharged.
