The world evolves, the human race evolves and with it also technology and we see this in the creation of new tools that are becoming an integral part of our lives, such as artificial intelligences, but what are they and how do they work?
One of the tools that has become increasingly common in recent years is theartificial intelligence. Today we find it literally everywhere and they always sell it to us included in the latest generation electronic devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. The most common use of AI is mainly found in voice assistantsas an example Alexa o Google Assistantbut also on streaming platforms such as Netflix, which recommend what to watch based on what you’ve already seen. Lately AI has been implemented in popular applications such as Chat GPT, which gives lightning-fast answers on any type of information needed. Or even image generators like Midjourney. In this article you will discover what artificial intelligences are and how they work.
The world changes | Artificial intelligences: what are they and how do they work?
One thing that artificial intelligence is doing is to change the world as we know it. The task of an AI, in fact, is to simulate the thoughts and learning processes of a human being. Contrary to what you might think, AI was born in the fifties. British mathematician Alan Turing was one of the first to create the theory of artificial intelligence. There was an experiment called “Turing test” which consisted of a game: if the machine could make a human being believe that it was talking to another human being, then that machine was intelligent. This is how AI was born. What we are talking about today, however, is a Generative AI, that is, an AI capable of autonomously generating texts, images, music, video synthesis, etc. Examples could be ChatGPT, Midjourner, DALL-E or MouseNet.
This type of AI differs fromIA is discriminatory, the one that classifies and identifies contents based on already existing data. These AI respond to stimuli from the outside world, but based on rules written by humans. Some examples are i security detectors who can identify an intruder in the house. Today there are three types of AI: YEARS, AGI e BUT. The first is the weakest, the so-called limited memory and it is the one in common use, like ChatGPT. The second one is stronger, capable of replicating the behavior of the human brain, emotions included. Today there are no machines or systems that reach this level, but we may see some examples in the near future. The last kind exceeds human capabilitiesbut this remains only a hypothesis.
AI technologies | Artificial intelligences: what are they and how do they work?
Different technologies are used to create AI. Among the most important we have themachine learning, deep learning, language models and thenatural language processing. The first is the one that allows AI to learn to carry out tasks, but only with the help of humans. The second, however, is the one that learns in total autonomy. Language models, on the other hand, are programs that exploit the Deep Learning per simulate human speech. Finally, the latest technology is that which allows AI to interact with humans without seeming cumbersome, responding in a more natural and realistic, even pleasant way. Deep Learning processes quantities of unstructured data. You can teach him what an apple is, but he will have to associate the other elements, such as the leaf or the tree. This is why the DL is very complicated and difficult to train. Natural language processing also allows AI to generate text using human-like language. This system analyzes, understands and processes natural language to create text as if it were a human.
AI is evolving more and more and is achieving huge success all over the world. The processing fields are very vast: data processing, text and image generation, even the law and the medicine. AI can help humans overcome unattainable limits, especially in the field of science and research. But it must always be moderate, because it could become very dangerousas the creator of ChatGPT stated, Sam Altman. AI has many benefits, but at the same time it is very worrying. In addition to fake news and you have deepfakeAI could pose risks to ours privacy and security, also causing us to lose jobs. In the future AI could replace humans in many sectors, from industry, to accounting and even journalism. This is already happening and could totally change our lives.
ChatGPT | Artificial intelligences: what are they and how do they work?
Today there are many platforms to exploit AI, one of the most famous is ChatGPT. The AI is available both on the web and as an app (you can download it by clicking here). ChatGPT was created by OpenIA, a company that changed the world of information technology. The chatbot is based on the GPT language model (a pre-trained generative transformer) fourth generation. The latest version is only available to registered users ChatGPT Pluspaid, while the free version is that of the previous model, GPT-3.5. The interface is very simple, in fact it is simply one chat where requests can be made. Once the AI processes the request, it provides a response that the bot considers more complete. The answers, however, do not go beyond the information released beyond 2021. With the arrival of the plugin, however, ChatGPT can also carry out searches on the Internet and cover more recent topics in your answers.
Midjourney | Artificial intelligences: what are they and how do they work?
Midjourney it’s AI for creative people. Indeed generates images based on a few lines of text (text-t-image), just like DALL-E. This AI creates truly stunning artistic images, based on the styles of the world’s leading painters and artists, such as Van-Gogh, Picasso, Dali and many others, but not only. The images generated are so realistic that they have fooled several users. Famous examples are fake images of Donald Trump’s arrest o di Pope francesco dressed in a fashionable jacket. The platform is much more complex than ChatGPT, in fact it only works if associated with Discord. After entering the data and confirming via email, you will be able to access the Midjourney servers and start creating images. Midjourney is available paid onlybut there is a free trial version of 25 image processing.
Google Bard
After ChatGPT and Midjourney, Google’s artificial intelligence chatbot also arrives, called Google Bard. After the announcement by the company, many wondered how to use Google’s artificial intelligence. Unfortunately, however, at the moment this chatbot it is not yet available in Europethis is due to problems related to the violation of General Data Protection Regulation. But there is an alternative: you can use Google Bard in Italy with the use of a VPN, like Surfshark. Furthermore, the VPN allows you to connect to the server of another country as if you were there Surfshark it also protects against possible hacker attacks and keeps all our data safe, even when we connect to public Wi-Fi networks. Once the VPN has been downloaded and activated, you can use Google Bard by accessing the official Google Bard website directly. The chatbot it is still in the experimental phase and is unable to understand Italian, so you will need to use the VPN.
