Las Vegas – On the occasion of the 2022 edition of CES in Las Vegas, the international conference dedicated to consumer electronics, we got our hands on the new, fantastic Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED to discover its features and price. The first foldable OLED laptop in the world was presented these days at the fair itself and the techprincess team was able to preview this event by touching the new creation from ASUS.
Discovering Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED
The Asus Zenbook 17 Fold monta un OLED display usable in two different modes. We are dealing with a real foldable laptop which, when in classic laptop mode, has a 12.5 “screen, when it is opened it becomes a single 17.3” touchscreen. To change the mode just insert the special magnetic keyboard to start using the laptop as a large and fascinating tablet.
Calling it a tablet is actually a reduction since the internal characteristics of the device make it a real laptop regardless of its shape. Inside we find a 12th generation Intel Core i7 processor, up to 16GB of DDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of internal memory. A 75 Wh battery powers the laptop / tablet hybrid, which can be folded and unfolded up to 30,000 times. The foldable OLED touchscreen is PANTONE Validated, TÜV Rheinland certified against excessive eye strain and is characterized by a 100% DCI-P3 gamut. There is no lack of certification Dolby Vision HDR for ultra-vivid picture quality and powerful Dolby Atmos sound through a Harman Kardon-certified four speaker system.
The package is completed by two Thunderbolt 4.0 ports and a 3.5mm audio jack. As for connectivity, we have Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
Our test of the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED
Thanks to Asus, we had the opportunity to preview the laptop thanks to a Hands-On that allowed us to watch the features and design of the new model live.
Let’s start immediately by saying that the first impact reflects exactly those sensations of awe and wonder that you will surely have experienced looking at the images or the presentation. Asus’ first foldable looks great: elegant, handy but also robust.
When closed, it looks like a normal laptop except for a sort of ridge on the top that slides slightly down when opened. This is where this Zenbook gives its best by revealing its most particular feature. When you lift the keyboard, portable and magnetic “interlocking”, the screen expands to become a single large 17.3 “. Even in this mode we will still be able to use the keyboard connected via bluetooth or we could opt for an on-screen keyboard.
The potential and performance of the laptop will not be altered but a fantastic new way to use the computer with a screen that is more screen than this will be presented to us.
Lots of potential
The OLED quality of this Asus Zenbook is a feast for the eyes and gives us satisfaction both when closed, with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,280 pixels, and from open where it reaches up to 2,560 x 1,920 pixels.
Having such a large screen at your fingertips, if necessary, could be a fantastic opportunity for graphic designers and for those who demand for films and TV series. When rotated, in fact, the screen automatically positions itself horizontally and can be used as a fantastic entertainment system. A practical stand position on the external chassis completes the work.
And the hinge?
At this point, we have come to the question that everyone will surely be asking: what about the hinge? what happens at that point where the laptop actually folds.
The progress made by Asus on this issue has been truly exceptional. Not only is the hinge barely visible when the screen is on, but it is barely perceptible to the touch when using the touchscreen. The situation changes when the screen is off and without the support of the light, the hinge pops out, making it clearly visible. When the Zenbook is closed, however, the hinge is covered by the laptop keyboard.

Having been able to hold this little jewel of technology in my hands was a real privilege. The potential of such a large screen is enormous and we have just begun to explore them. Once again ASUS has created an innovative product that could give us great satisfaction.
