The ASUSTOR brand has presented its brand new Nimbustor Gen2 in the last few hours
ASUSTOR is one of the leading and innovative NAS manufacturers founded in 2011 with a direct investment from ASUSTek Computer Inc.. He announced the new Nimbustor Gen2which will be available in both two-bay (AS5402T) and four-bay (AS5404T) versions.
Based on the latest generation Intel Quad-Core processors and available in both two-bay and four-bay versions, both featuring four M.2 slots for NVMe SSD drives. The new Nimbustor Gen2 will surely be appreciated by the most savvy usersthanks to their performance and functionality, as well as particularly affordable prices.
Details on ASUSTOR’s new Nimbustor Gen2
Evolution of the successful Nimbustor series, certainly one of the most popular of the ASUSTOR range; the new Nimbustor Gen2 can count on the high performance that the Intel Celeron N5105 quad-core processor with operating frequency up to 2.9 GHz is able to offer (up 31% compared to the previous generation).
While 4GB of DDR4-2933 memory, expandable up to 16 GB, guarantee in perspective the possibility of exploiting the potential of these NAS. This also in areas such as, for example, those of virtualization and video surveillance.
The main novelty introduced on the new Nimbustor Gen2, however, is that relating to presence of four M.2 PCIe 3.0 slots for NVMe SSD units. These can be used for very high-speed data storage, as a cache, or both, which benefits performance and flexibility.
On the connectivity front, we note the presence of two 2.5 Gigabit ports with support for Link Aggregation and SMB Multichannel technologies. These enable read speeds of up to 576 MB/s and write speeds of up to 566 MB/s with SMB Multichannel.
Characteristics
The new Nimbustor Gen2 also are equipped with three USB 3.2 Gen2x1 ports, able to guarantee transfer rates up to 10 Gbps; they are, therefore, ideal for connecting external expansion units and/or external SSDs.
Thanks to the presence of an HDMI port and the support of 4K H.265 10-bit decoding managed by the integrated GPU in the CPU, the new Nimbustor Gen2 are also perfect for home entertainment and video editing.
To allow for optimal heat dissipation, ASUSTOR has also intervened on the chassis of the Nibustor Gen2. Unlike their predecessors, they now feature a series of additional holes capable of further improving air circulation. They are also able to prevent the mass memories from overheating, to the full advantage of their reliability and duration.
As for the operating system, the new Nimbustors rely on the solid and proven ADM 4.2. This also brings a new Quick Start Guide, which can help users familiarize themselves with the basic functions of the NAS; as well as to discover features such as, for example:
- bi-directional file sharing links to and from ASUSTOR NAS,
- the exclusive MyArchive functionality and the brand new automatic volume mounting and unmounting functions,
- support for WireGuard VPN clients and much more.
