What are automatic coffee machines and how do they work? Let’s find out together in this dedicated article
Automatic coffee machines for domestic use are increasingly widespread and for several years they have been gaining ground on the traditional way of preparing coffee, i.e. the one with the classic Moka.
Technological advances in recent years have led to the development of products for domestic use that are particularly sophisticated and full of interesting functions; Furthermore, unlike the very first models, the quality level of the drinks is decidedly higher, so much so that in many cases there are no particular differences between an espresso prepared at home and one from the bar.
The automation of coffee machines for domestic use as well as those for professional use (for bars, restaurants and other establishments in the food and beverage sector) is managed through high-tech electronic boards which are produced and created based on the specific functionalities of a car; In fact, there are numerous models on the market that differ not only in design, but also in terms of functions.
Some proposals are specific for coffee (espresso, medium or long), while other models can also dispense other types of drinks: cappuccino, caffe latte, caffè macchiato, latte macchiato, etc.
Automatic coffee machines: how they work
When we talk about automatic coffee machines, we are primarily referring to those that involve the use of coffee beans to be ground, but as is known, there are also machines that use ground coffee, pods or capsules.
The operation of these machines is quite simple as it is sufficient to insert the coffee beans into the appropriate container and press the desired drink button. It goes without saying that an appliance of this kind is equipped with an internal grinder that acts on the spot, immediately before preparing the coffee.
Depending on the type of appliance, it is possible to choose between different types of drinks, including those that use milk (cappuccino, latte macchiato, etc.).
Main features of automatic coffee machines
An appreciated feature of these machines is that the grinding of the coffee beans is carried out immediately before dispensing the drink; you are therefore sure of obtaining a fresh coffee with a particularly intense aroma.
Another point in favor of these devices is that the coffee beans are the ones that, for obvious reasons, have the lowest cost. Powdered coffee, as well as that in pods or capsules, are subjected to further processing and, consequently, their price is necessarily higher.
On the other hand, the average price of an automatic coffee machine equipped with a grinder is much higher than that of coffee machines that work with pods or capsules.
Other points to consider are space requirement and periodic cleaning. It is a fact that automatic machines equipped with a grinder are bulkier than other solutions, of which there are also very compact versions. Cleaning operations are also more complex.
From this perspective, the intensity of use must therefore be evaluated; if you consume very few coffees a week, it is worth evaluating the possible alternatives; if, however, consumption is considerable, in the long term the investment could be repaid, also considering the high quality of the coffee supplied.
