The BMW X7 2022 has been unveiled, bringing with it updated engines, revised technology and the debut of its new design. The renewed X7 is in fact the first production car of the brand to present this new look with split headlights. This will be carried over to the upcoming 7 Series and the electric i7 when they are revealed in the coming weeks.
The design is based on the positioning of the LED daytime running lights in a slim housing, while the main headlights (also LED) are concealed behind tinted glass. Thanks to this dark cover, the headlights appear to be hidden until the driver activates them. At the same time, their advanced LED matrix units offer rotation and functions the BMW Selective Beam anti-glare assistant is standard.
At the rear there are new LED lights with a three-dimensional effect, connected by a chrome strip under the glass cover.
BMW’s trademark double kidney grille does not change in size, but gets a “discreet cascade lighting”, with a feature called “Iconic Glow” now becoming standard for the M60i.
In addition, customers who choose the versions X7 xDrive40i e xDrive40d with an optional sports package they will also have specific front and rear bumper shapes, sill extensions, glossy black decorations (such as roof bars and moldings), 21 ″ alloy wheels and trapezoid-shaped tailpipes.
An even more unique design package is available for the M60i flagship model. You get exclusive M mirrors, which should improve aerodynamics and standard two-tone 21 ″ five-pointed alloy wheels. However, if desired, you can order, for the first time for the BMW X7, alloy wheels up to 23 inches.
BMX X7 2022, the interiors and engines change
In addition to the exterior design, however, that of the passenger compartment has also changed significantly, which is still available in the seven-seater version. The traditional BMW cockpit has been replaced by a large curved display which combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment unit. The classic panel for managing internal ventilation and media has thus disappeared from the dashboard, and almost all controls have now moved to the touch screen. However, there are still a few buttons under the air intakes and in the center console. A novelty, however, is the significantly smaller gear selector, which replaces the classic joystick. The iDrive selector, along with other commands, has fortunately been retained.

BMW X7, diesel and petrol engines with 48V mild-hybrid technology
Under the hood of the BMW X7 2022 three modern and powerful engines will be available. The offering is based on two 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engines: the new xDrive40i petrol engine with 280 kW (380 hp) and 540 Nm of torque and the extensively modernized xDrive40d diesel engine with 259 kW (352 hp ) and 720 Nm of torque. At the top of the offering is a 4.4-liter M60i xDrive eight-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 390 kW (530 hp) and 750 Nm of torque.
All engines are equipped with technology mild-hybrid a 48V. This generates a torque of 200 Nm and, depending on the driving situation, adds up to 9 kW of power. Also, with the xDrive40i engine, the electric motor can power the car independently when it goes very slowly. The energy is stored in a 48V battery, which is located in the engine compartment.
The xDrive40i engine makes its debut in the new BMW X7 with two technological advances leading to higher performance and lower emissions. It offers a maximum power of up to 280 kW (380 hp) and a torque of up to 520 Nm. You get up to 540 Nm con he sistema mild-hybrid. Compared to its predecessor, the power has increased by 35 kW and 70 Nm.
The xDrive40d six-cylinder diesel is updated to improve fuel consumption and reduce emissions. The engine received steel pistons instead of aluminum ones, which allowed higher combustion pressures and increased the efficiency of the oil separator. The new common rail direct injection system works with injectors with solenoid valves that provide up to 12 injections per cycle with a maximum pressure of 2500 bar.
All engines of the modernized BMW X7 are connected as standard with a cambio automatico Steptronic Eight-speed sport, which promises quick gear changes. In addition to the gearshift levers on the steering wheel, the transmission also offers the Launch Control function.
The SUV is equipped as standard with the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the gearbox. This takes care of distributing the power between the front and rear wheels.
The frame plans to series of active air suspension on both axles (allowing you to change the ground clearance in the range of 80 mm). The result should be BMW’s characteristic driving characteristics combined with excellent comfort on long journeys. Furthermore, the top-of-the-range BMW X7 M60i also offers integral active steering and adaptive stabilizers as standard.
The market debut of the new BMW X7 SUV is expected in the month of Augustwith prices not yet announced.
