Mark Margolis, actor best known for playing Hector Salamanca in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, died on August 3, 2023 at the age of 83 in New York
It was his son Morgan who announced the death of Mark Margolis, specifying that the causes of death, which occurred at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, were due to a short illness. Mark Margolis was born in Philadelphia in 1939 into a Jewish family and participated in numerous films after studying acting with Stella Adler at the prestigious Actors Studio. Fame among the general public came thanks to the interpretation of Bolivian killer Alberto in Brian De Palma’s film Scarface. In his palmares there are also films such as Cotton Club, Ace Ventura e Requiem for a Dreamto which are added over forty TV series, among which are Star Trek: The Next Generation, Oz e American Horror Story.

Di Margolis, who defined himself as a “worker actor” recalling that six months after Scarface had to accept a friend’s proposal to work in the real estate sector to make ends meet, we also recall the long-standing collaboration with the director Darren Aronofsky. But of course the most recent popular success is due to his participation in Breaking Bad and its prequel Better Call Saul. Regarding the role of Hector Salamanca he stated that he was especially cut for the part.
I entered the show knowing only the episode in question, but, since the right is not taken into account, the fans immediately took a liking to me. Someone asked me: How did you play such a horrible character?, and I said: Have you talked to my friends? Well, they’ll tell you I’m rather unhappy to begin.
In some interviews Margolis said that Breaking Bad was his best television experience. And we can only continue to love and hate his character at the same time.
