The use of artificial intelligence is one of the hottest topics of the moment when it comes to musical and artistic compositions. He also spoke on the subject Brian Mayguitarist of Queen, who expressed his opinion on the subject, speaking of the uses of generative artificial intelligence in music and in society.
Brian May says he’s worried about artificial intelligence
Interviewed for Guitar Player, the British guitarist first spoke of music, only to then extend his concerns to society as well. Reflecting on the proliferation of AI compositing tools, May said:
“Within a year, we may no longer be able to understand what was created by artificial intelligence and what by humans. Everything will be very confusing. I think we’ll look at 2023 as the last year humans really dominated the music industry.”
Certainly a pessimistic statement, but he was no longer optimistic about the use of technology in other areas. Although May has acknowledged that “artificial intelligence allows humans to solve many problems”, he believes the political implications of AI are “incredibly frightening”.
The potential to cause harm is enormous. Nobody dies if AI is used in music, but people can die if it gets involved in politics and world domination. It’s all incredibly scary.”
Not even Queen survived the trend of generating fake songs thanks to artificial intelligence. A few months ago a video in which Freddie Mercury sang a cover of The Beatles’ Yesterday was shared online. Of course, this is an AI-generated piece of work, with incredibly realistic results. In another news, a band has recorded an entire instrumental rock album in the style Oasisbut then add the AI entry of Liam Gallagher. The result, also in this case, was amazing.
