Independence becomes elusive, and the shadow of exclusivity hovers: Sony’s leash is potentially tightened around Bungie’s neck

No declaration of independence for Bungie: will the reins remain with Sony exclusively?
At the moment, Bungie’s top management consists of two Sony representatives: the head of the PlayStation division, Hermen Hulstand the veteran vice president Eric Lempel, plus the last bastions of the independence of the development team behind the probable next exclusive. The co-founder of the studio Jason Jones and colleague Luis Villegas they in fact narrowly won the vote in favor of Pete Parsons as CEO. Howevershould the next revenues fall “by too much” beyond expectations, Sony will find itself legally capable of dissolving the current management and take full possession of the development team. The Destiny 2 situation didn’t help, and following the over one hundred layoffs the morale of the development team is “at an all-time low”. It’s not the first time this has happened in the gaming industry: after what happened with Game Freak, we can only hope for the full success of The Final Shape.
