Capcom chief operating officer Haruhiro Tsujimoto recently said the Resident Evil and Monster Hunter company “will focus primarily on PC software” in the future.
The executive indicated that Capcom hopes to increase software sales for PC to the point that the platform represents the main source of revenue by the end of next year. Tsujimoto reported the following: “The PC is driving global video game sales. We recently stated that we will do the PC our main platform. At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, we focused on showing the PC version of Monster Hunter Rise and I think people will be able to experience the change in our approach soon. “
Capcom: “the PC will be the gaming trend of the future”
Tsujimoto went on to suggest that the attention of Capcom for the market PC is related to both the increase in digital sales of legacy titles (“Resident Evil 7 still sells over a million copies a year “), and the increase in PC use for gaming in Japan during pandemic:
The pandemic is changing the way people view PC. Smartphones are affordable, but their screens are small and their touch panels are difficult to use, so they’re not suitable for work from home or for lessons. I think PCs will be the next big thing after smartphones. The PC can also play high-quality games, so the number of PC users is expected to increase as global understanding of this platform increases. We will expand our business to dedicated gaming consoles, which has been the most prevalent trend so far, but PC will be the mainstream trend of the future. Next year or the year after, we want to match the ratio of PC sales to dedicated consoles.
The Japanese giant has historically focused its attention on console games, but in recent years it has been more successful in the PC space. In 2019, the company said that the personal computer was the largest audience for Monster Hunter World and Resident Evil Village set an all-time record for concurrent players on Steam earlier this year. This weekend Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Rise per PC (Steam) will be released on January 13, 2022. The PC version will include resolution support 4K e display ultra-wide, as well as voice chat functionality. A demo for the PC version will be released on October 13th. Monster Hunter Rise, which is the sixth main entry in the Monster Hunter series, released for Switch in March 2021 (find our review here).
