An unexpected return is finally available on Switch: Chocobo GP takes us back to the tracks inspired by Final Fantasy in an unexpected exclusive
In a 2022 that already promises to be crazy at the level of releases, it is finally available one of the most unexpected: we are obviously talking about Chocobo GPwhich Square-Enix has generously given players on Nintendo Switch in the guise of exclusive. We’ve talked long enough about how many bizarre coincidences involve the title and the good old Chocobo Racing in the heavy and recent retrogaming special, and now we are ready to do battle in the world of Final Fantasy replacing the shifts with… laps on the various tracks. Here’s what awaits you in the crackling kart racer.
Heart-pounding races and unlikely variety in Chocobo GP available today
As the name implies, a vast roster of drivers is available in Chocobo GP which will be expanded into a “hybrid” business model. In addition to the full version, fixed on Nintendo eShop at the figure of fifty Euros, in fact, there is a free-to-play variant for which season passes and so on are already planned. As far as we know, however, we can at least expect a crackling soundtrack along the lines of the already masterful work of Kenji “Itoken” Ito and lots of content at launch, including various pilots taken with both hands from the main series (ironically, the generic Black Magician will be playable together with Vivi Ornitier from Final Fantasy IX).
For the rest, this remains a kart racer that anticipated Mario Kart: Double Dash !! in the vast collection of vehicles used by the characters, and reinterpreting the power-ups through the classics spells that made the series so loved. As for us, barring unforeseen circumstances we will be more than happy to judge the expected (but unexpected) return of this format for Chocobo, Mog and company in a review. For now, however, suffice it to say that the starting blocks are open to all pilots; the Piros are ready to improvise traffic lights to see us shoot on our motor skates.
