Disney+ starts testing to place a limit on shared passwords, just like Netflix: it starts in Canada on November 1st
Disney+ will begin restricting password sharing and prevent account use outside of your household in the same household until starting November 1, with the new rules coming into force on a trial basis in Canada. The streaming service sent email alerts to its Canadian subscribers on Wednesday, detailing the new rules account sharing.
Unless otherwise permitted by your service level, you may not share your subscription outside of your household. If we determine that you have violated this Agreement, we may limit or terminate your access to the Service and/or take any other measures permitted by this Agreement.
Disney+: a new policy on shared passwords
The CEO of Disney, Bob Igersaid last month that the company intended to crack down on password sharing, following in the footsteps of streaming giant Netflix, which earlier this year began charging 8 dollars for extra users on an account. A clear choice from an entrepreneurial point of view, which however can be advantageous for those who, even if not within the same family unit, intend to use streaming services.
Netflix’s account sharing rules allow premium subscribers to have two additional people on their account; standard subscribers can add one additional person; and lower levels do not allow additional users. It is not yet known whether Disney Plus will have similar rules based on the level of plan purchased, nor when and if the new rules will take effect in Europe. We already know that Disney+ will increase its prices on October 12th, also for its bundled services with Hulu.
